Yoke Fook Moon @ Ipoh

It was an impromptu one day trip to Ipoh with my family during last April. We purposely skipped our breakfast at KL and kicked started our Ipoh food trail at the famous dim sum street ~ Jalan Leong Sin Nam which houses 3 most popular dim sum restaurants at Ipoh, Foh San, Ming Court and Yoke Fook Moon.

Occupied 2 shop houses, Yoke Fook Moon was swarmed by breakfast crowd as expected on that Saturday morning. I noticed that there are many workers here and the service was indeed quite attentive during my visit.

We were ushered to the another section which was more vacant. (Photo above was taken after we finished our meal where most of the diners had left)

Har Gao (Prawn Dumpling) & Siew Mai (Pork Dumpling)

Both were decent served pipping hot to our table. The prawn filling of the Har Gao was plump and generous however the thick skin missed the mark.

Both were Char Siu Bao (BBQ Pork Bun) but with different outlook >_< Put aside the appearance problem, the bun was good nonetheless. The skin was soft and fluffy encasing the generous portion savory Char Siu filling with hint of adequate sweetness.

Lao Sar Bao (Salted Egg Yolk Bun)

If you are big on Lao Sar Bao, Yoke Fook Moon does a pretty satisfying version with luscious flowing salted egg yolk filling. Savor it pipping hot, the bun was such a treat!

Pan Fried Carrot Cake

This carrot cake left a lasting impression and was my favourite sim sum of this meal. The carrot cake had a beautiful pan fried crust, the texture was soft and studded with bits of Chinese sausage (Lap Cheong) and shredded white radish. The flavors was sublime and really struck a chord with us. If you’re here, do not attempt to miss this!

Porridge and Braised Chicken Feet were decent too.

Verdict: A pleasant dining experience without annoying table waiting time. Food were mostly above average, especially the carrot cake and will definitely come back for it on my next trip.
