Flying Noodles @ Underground Société, Bandar Sunway

If you are as gullible as me, you will think Houdini is the chef at Underground Société.

I’m referring to the most trended foodie treasure in town at the moment. It’s Flying Noodles! Being a responsible and up to date food blogger (ehem…), I knew this was something I had to check out for myself the gimmick behind this mysterious “Flying Noodles”.

Brimming with curiosity we ventured to Underground Société at Bandar Sunway to find out the “trick” of the “Flying Noodles”! Under the same management of Coffee Société and Garage 51, Underground Société (US) play a different role with its sister establishments. This place not only offers a full-fledged food and beverages menu but also extensive selection of cocktails, mocktails, wine, beer and even champagne.

Nestled amongst car accessories shops and automobile repair shops, this bistro has a really discreet signboard with only the US wording stated and some artistic drawing. We had hard time figured out where’s the door leading to the dining area too. ~>_<~  This sound ridiculous but it really happened to us!

It is a rather dimly lighted space filled with wooden tables and metal chairs. The urban industrial setting with concrete wall, dark ceiling, contemporary murals in monochrome as well as the use of wood and steel trims cozy up the overall feel.

Sam was fascinated by the magic Flying Noodles! This is by far the best definition of Insta-worthy food I must say. ^__*

Introduced in conjunction of Halloween Day, this Flying Noodles definitely is out to impress.  Served in a double-decker dimsum basket with a bowl of dipping sauce, the generous portion of cold udon paired with pickled cucumbers and edamame.
Gimmicks aside, this udon was pretty decent. Beautifully prepared, the cold udon was springy and well complemented with the thick Signature Underground Sauce. The sauce poise a lovely balance between sour and sweet. There are choices of Flying Zaru Soba (RM19.00) & Flying Chic Kut Teh (RM19.00) as well in the Flying Noodles series.

Ok, why the noodles fly? I’m not going to reveal the trick here, I’ll leave it to you to find out for yourself!

Mushroom Soup with Garlic Bread (RM16.00)

Big portion and well executed in terms of flavors, the earthiness of the mushrooms was comforting. I thought the consistency could be a little bit thicker, no fault here but just more of a matter of preference.

Crispy Chicken with Kimchi Bao (RM11.00)

Sandwiched in between soft fluffy buns, the combination of crispy fried chicken fillet and appetizing kimchi indeed works well together.

200g Grain-fed Australian Beef Tenderloin with Mashed Potatoes and Robert Sauce (RM45.00)
We were served with potato chips instead of mashed potatoes as per mentioned in the menu. We accepted it happily since they were perfectly done, pipping hot and crispy outer with soft mushy inner.

We also had one of the chef’s recommendation, Grain-fed Australian Beef Tenderloin. The beef was tender but still had a good bite in the meat and the seasoning was minimal to showcase the original flavor of it. The accompanied Robert sauce was complex in flavors, savory, peppery and sweet, great to amp up the flavors of the beef.

Verdict: The Flying Noodles certainly scores point for its novelty, one will get a very instagrammable photo or video that earns LIKES from your followers! Flavors was decent but lack of something that really wowed us. I was attracted by their innovative brunch menu as well as special drinks with quirky and eye-catching presentation which I saw many patrons had them throughout our dinner.
