Merrow Pasta @ Taipan Business Centre, Subang Jaya
Italy maybe the birthplace of pasta but it is a much loved dish even in Malaysia. There are numerous of cafes and restaurants in Klang Valley cooked up authentic Italian pasta for the traditionalist to the modified version for the adventures. Merrow Pasta is one that offers both.

Located at Subang Jaya’s bustling Taipan Business Centre, Merrow Pasta boasts a cozy interior partnered with clean and pleasant setting. Plenty of wooden tones are used, the furniture, flooring and patterned wall. With a mixture of contrast colour of black, potted plants, artworks adorning the walls as well as mellow lighting liven up the overall feel.

The second section of the restaurant lies an area furnished with more tables and few booth seats. Further accentuated the place are the elegant chandeliers and feature walls with unique pattern.

Diners can get some kitchen actions through the open kitchen set in the middle of the restaurant.

Hot Tea – Apple Cherry (RM11.90 for 2 pax) & Watermelon Juice (RM8.90)

Smoked Salmon Salad (RM19.60)
The presentation this potato salad certainly not the most appealing I’ve seen 😛 Comprises of potato salad coated in pungent mustard dill dressing studded with beef bacon bits, hard boiled egg and lettuce wrapped with smoked Salmon. The distinctive flavors of the mustard dressing is not to my preferential taste, too overpowering to my palate.

Fresh Seafood Soup (RM19.80)
There’s simply nothing to dislike about fresh seafood in a herb-seasoned tomato based broth. Prawns, clams, mussels, fish and crab submerged in pool of appetizing tomato broth and cleverly spiced up with dried chili oil.

Fruitti Di Mare Fritto (RM17.80)
A great light bite to munch on, platter of crunchy deep fried squid rings and prawns served with tartar sauce & lemon wedge. The only thing we didn’t fancy was the shell-on prawns that make the eating slightly not convenient.
Merrow Pasta put in extra effort to make their own pasta such as spaghetti, fettuccine, farfalle and even special flavoured pasta like tomato spaghetti as well as spinach fettuccine.

Carbonara (RM19.60)

Mercifully slathered in a creamy reduction embellished with generous amount of turkey ham, shaved cheese, perfumed with handful of herbs and crowned with poached egg. Break the yolk of the wobbly poached egg on top, the egg yolk oozed out and coat the pasta with more richness. A heavenly dish indeed! I recommend everyone to enjoy this while hot for the best flavours.

Marinara (RM20.80)
Served in a zesty tomato herbs sauce and brimming with fresh seafood, so much that you can’t really see the pasta underneath. Enlivened with garlic and parsley, this pasta dish packed a real punch. But what really impressed us was those delightful ingredients like prawn, squid, mussel and clams came through nicely for the fullest of flavors.

Con Salsa Al Nero (RM27.60)
The house made pasta enrobed in rich, interesting oceanic black squid ink sauce studded with squid and cherry tomatoes. A light scent of squid ink added the flavor while the bonito flakes and a dash of chili oil enhances the pasta to another level. However, I stll think the taste was too mild for local taste buds, perhaps some fine tuning need to be done with the seasonings.

Sam said “yum~~”

Smoked Duck in Teriyaki Dry Chili Sauce (RM19.60)
This pasta looked innocuous but managed to wow everyone that evening with its audacity flavors. The flavors was entirely different from what we had envisioned how a Teriyaki sauce pasta should be. Different in a good way to be precise. It was savory with light hits of heat from the dried chili, very tempting oriental flavors indeed. The smoked sliced duck is salty and moreish. It certainly goes well with the pasta.

Lasagne Al Forno (RM24.80)

Served pipping hot in cast iron pan, the fresh pasta sheets, layered with vibrant tomato sauce and minced beef, finished with oozy melted cheese. The taste was simply intoxicating even for someone like me who doesn’t fancy lasagna. I think this dish can easily get seal of approval from Garfield, hehe ^__^
Have tummy room to spare? Then dive into their luscious treats such as Chocolate Pasta, Tiramisu, Panna Cotta, Bread & Butter Pudding as well as these two desserts that we’ve tried.

Lave Cake with Ice Cream (RM18.80)

A marvelous pairing of hot and cold with warm where moist chocolatey molten cake meets cold vanilla ice cream.

Orange Creme Brulee (RM13.80)
Candied orange infused custard with crispy layer of scorched caramel on top, its ethereal sweetness was fleeting but discernible on the palate.

Cappuccino (RM9.80)
FYI, all the coffee, tea and chocolate are sourced from Cafes Richard.
Verdict: While there were some misses in between the food we had, I’d consider them minuscule and should not detract you from giving this pasta specialist restaurant a try.
