Charco Restaurant Cafe @ Empire Shopping Gallery
True to its name “Charco”, one of the restaurant’s main decoration ornament is the black beauty ~ charcoal. Not only this but they also associated the charcoal into their recipe especially for the making of bread and pasta.
Charco Restaurant Cafe, a relatively new restaurant located at Empire Shopping Gallery, Subang specializes in Charco Bread, Italian Food and Asian Fusion. Adopted a simple black and cream colour theme with slightly rustic feel of the unfurnished cement wall and floor. As I mentioned earlier, one will definitely attracted by the unpretentious but good looking wall of nicely arranged charcoal.
Let’s explore their “black menu”!
Charco Smile (RM 12.80)
Their signature “black” drink consisted of black sesame hence the beautiful greyish colour. Very creamy and fragrant from the black sesame.
Creme Caramel
Topped with a piece of cookies and dusted with choco powder , my drink of creme caramel was not too sweet and I like it the mild caramel after taste.
(Front) Virgin Cucumber Passion Mojito (RM 10.80)
(Back) Virgin Lemongrass Mojito (RM 10.80)
The refreshing concoction of mint leaves and lime and addition flavors of passion fruit and lemongrass respectively definitely your good thirst quencher!
Tortilla Dippy with Balsamic Mushrooms (RM 13.80)
Tortilla chips served with sautéed balsamic mushrooms with a creamy sauce and salad as side. It is a light snack to be shared before proceed for the next “serious” dish 😛
Dippy Lamb Stew (RM 23.80)
Salmon Aglio Olio (RM 24.80)
Lamb Kofta De Coulis (RM 22.80)
Using the same charcoal pasta as above, this was coated with a rich and vibrant tomato sauce and sprinkled with lots of grated cheese. Placed on the center was a grilled lamb kofta which had a quite strong “gamey” taste for me.
Mee Mamak (RM 18.80)
The hefty price tag might be a put off for some but believe me you will regret if you miss this! Laying under the unpretentious appearance was a serving of mee mamak which really provocative in flavors that teased and tugged my palate! Also laden with some seafood, beansprouts, Chinese leek and tomato wedges the noodle was moist and robust in flavors. It was totally knocked my socks off!
Stir Fried Egg Noodle (RM 15.80)
The “wok hei” was distinctively present and the noodle had the just correct texture, not too soggy nor hard. There were abundance of shredded vegetables which add a nice crunchy texture to it.
Charco Nasi Lemak with Bumbu Chicken (RM 20.80)
Nicely arranged on a rectangle plate, condiments such as fried anchovies, peanuts, sambal, boiled egg, blanched vegetables and crackers was served together with the fluffy coconut milk rice and grilled chicken. The huge chicken drumstick definitely took the center stage, it had a pleasant smoky flavor smothered with savory nutty sauce.
Chocolate Flourless Cake (RM 16.80 & RM 10.80 without ice cream)
It had lusciously creamy texture that beguiled me into forgetting my disdain for my growing waistline.
Opera Cake (RM 10.80)
This to me was an incarnation of Tiramisu because I can taste the mild bitterness from the coffee butter cream. Blame my low tolerance towards the “bitterness” of coffee.
Strawberry Chocolate Ganache Cake (RM 11.80)
For chocolate dessert lover, this definitely can make your day! Consisted of a few layers of different chocolate ganache, the flavor was dense with hint of strawberry taste.
One bite and you will know this is not your ordinary cheese cake! The extremely smooth and creamy soft baked cheese cake was literally melt in your mouth and it was not cloying at all. I can finish a whole piece by myself, don’t ever think of I will share with you!
Are you interested to explore the “BLACK”?
Verdict: A good place for casual dining for some wholesome and hearty food, although the price tag is slightly on higher side but I think is worthy considering the ingredients used are in fine quality!
