Christmas Eve Dinner @ Samplings on the Fourteenth, Berjaya Times Square Hotel KL

Christmas songs, Christmas decorations and Christmas sales are at every nook and cranny in the city and these definitely the indicators of the merriest time of the year is approaching! In conjunction with this joyful time of the year, Berjaya Times Square Hotel, Kuala Lumpur is hosting various attractive offerings this holidays in the spirit of giving.


On the eve of Christmas, Samplings on the Fourteenth features a festive set menu specially designed for the occasion by the restaurant’s Chef de Cuisine, Chef Val.

Located on the 14th floor of Berjaya Time Square Hotel (east wing), Samplings on the Fourteenth (SONF) served as a practical site for Berjaya University College of Hospitality during the day and open for dinner every day (6.30pm-10.30pm) except Sunday and Public Holidays.

Being my first visit to the SONF, I was enchanted by the posh and modern looking interior; romantic vibe is easily exuded under the dim light, definitely a perfect venue for some special occasion celebrations.

Overlooking the magnificent city view through the soaring high floor-to-ceiling glass window and  I was told that there were a few proposals took place here which I thought most probably a successful one 🙂

Appetizer: Smoked Salmon and Prawn Salad

The epitome of an appetite-whetter, the delicate thick sliced salmon was unquestionably fresh and toothsome.

The highly stacked prawn salad consisted of bouncy poached prawn, crunchy puff pastry and tangy tomatoes dressed with lemon chive vinaigrette, a great play on textures and flavors that awake my sense for more to come!

Cream of Pumpkin Soup

The vibrant orange-y pumpkin soup was thick and creamy with fresh mashed pumpkin and a dollop of sour cream. I’m not a fan of pumpkin but I found myself polished it off effortlessly ^__*

Minted Watermelon Sorbet

The refreshing Minted Watermelon Sorbet to cleanse our palate and welcoming our mains.

 

The mains came with options of  Christmas Roast Turkey, Slow Roasted Lamb Shank or Pan Seared Cod.

The obligatory dish when come to Christmas!

The roasted turkey was served with bacon-wrapped sage and onion stuffing, roasted potatoes, buttered Brussels sprouts and baby carrots. The stuffing was affectionately brilliant and the vegetables and chestnut were well executed too. The turkey on the other hand was a tad too dry but the choices of cranberry or apple sauce did rescued it a little bit 😛

Slow Roasted Lamb Shank with Rosemary Jus

The humongous lamb shank was seated gloriously on bed of parmesan polenta with a slathered of rosemary jus and grilled baby vegetables as side.  The meat was meltingly tender and fall apart at the gentle prod of my knife. It was also well infused with rich flavors from the slow braising process.

Pan Seared Cod

A dish that looks like an artist’s masterpiece with the thick slab of cod and the side ingredients such as wild mushroom, cured cherry tomato, baby carrot, zucchini and olive tart in a myriads of colours. The dish forefronts the freshness of the cod so the chef just kept the sauce mild in flavor to highlight the flakiness and softness of the fish. Perfect, almost. Not absolutely but close enough~

Dessert: Chestnut Mille Feuille

Ended our splendid meal with a dessert medley of chestnut mille feuille, orange-flavored Christmas pudding and cinnamon ice cream.

I love the chestnut mille feuille for the richness and creaminess of the chestnut puree, oh la la, I’m on cloud nine~ The cinnamon ice cream was equally tantalizing too with its distinctive flavors however the Christmas pudding not really tickled my fancy 😛

There were also serving of Christmas Petit Four and lastly a choices of coffee or tea to end your meal.
