Kimi-Ya @ Avantas Residence, Jalan Klang Lama (Old Klang Road)

Have you ever been to a new establishment but the food tasted familiarly good? That’s a hallmark of a good restaurant and in my case a new Japanese restaurant that I stumbled upon at the busy stretch of Old Klang Road.

Opened barely few months, Kimi-Ya is located at ground floor of Avantas Residence, a rather new serviced apartment in the heart of Old Klang Road

The place’s earthy and warm tones exude a coziness that welcomed us warmly. I can feel the spaciousness once I stepped into the restaurant, wooden tables pair with comfortable cushioned chairs and booth seating arranged neatly at the dining area. The décor is simple and minimal but not boring. Check out the decorative bamboos and Japanese influenced motif art pieces on the wall as well as the display cabinet with sake bottles which offer the Japanese Zen ambiance.

Diners can dine at the sushi bar and catch some chefs in action!

There are private rooms for booking as well.

Kimi-Ya offers a solid list of Japanese dishes ranging from Sashimi, Salad, assorted of Donburi, Maki, Temaki, Sushi, Nabe Mono, Tempura, Yakimono, Udon, Soba, set meals, various of sake, alcohol, tea & juices. There is also monthly special which features dish prepared with the freshest ingredients of that particular month.

Japan Karatsuki Hotate Butter Yaki

For the month of May, this huge Karatsuki Hotate (scallop) imported from Japan is showcased and only available from 1st May to 31st May 2017. Cooked lively at our table, the tempting sake butter aroma that wafted the entire space really make us drooling. The sauce was so robust in flavor, both scallop and Shimeji mushrooms soaked up all the flavor and it tasted really good.

Fugu Nabe

Also featured in this month is this Fugu Nabe which is their Mother’s Day Promotion, available from 1st May until 14th May 2017.

Showcases Japanese hotpot served with imported certified sliced Fugu (pufferfish). The paper thin Fugu slices are savoured ala shabu-shabu style, simply poach in the broth till just cooked, they were tender and deliciously sweet. The clear broth of the hotpot was prepared by using bonito flakes and Fugu bones, it was delicate and filled with vegetables, mushrooms, tofu and fish slices.

Matsu Sashimi Moriawase

The Shashimi on icy garden attracted the eyes even before it is savoured. 6 types of thickly sliced freshest cut of fish provided a taste of oceanic sweetness with satisfying textures.

Salmon Tataki

Slightly torched on the surface, the Salmon Tataki sit on pool of soy sauce crowned with spicy radish and chopped scallion possessed an additional smoky flavor that complemented the fattiness of the fish.

Hamachi Carpaccio

The beautiful Amberjack with almost translucent, pinkish white flesh has a high fat content resulting in a rich, buttery flavor. Wrapped with shredded onion and radish, dressed with house mix Carpaccio sauce, popped the whole thing in your mouth to enjoy the multitude textures and flavors.

Unagi Avocado Roll

Avocado Ebi Mentai Roll

Both come in a substantial size and bound to be a crowd favorite as they were finished in a jiffy. These are especially welcomed by the kids as I saw them had more a helping and I didn’t get to try any >_<

If you are at this area on weekdays, they are having this promotion of complimentary dessert with every lunch set order. Available Monday to Friday, from 12.00pm-3.00pm.

Nabeyaki Udon To Sushi Gozen (RM36.00)

Definitely a worthy deal for the price! The portion is good enough for 2 small eaters or a very very filling portion for one =.=”

Assorted sushi

Udon in clear broth with Tempura prawn, chicken chunks, fish cakes, vegetables, mushrooms and egg. The set also consists of pickles, Chawanmushi & fruits.

Chicken Teriyaki Gozen (RM26.00)

Came with Chicken Teriyaki with rice, pickles, Chawanmushi, Miso soup and fruits.

Tender and juicy meat generously slathered with sweet teriyaki sauce which has the right balance of flavors. A sure winner with everyone of all ages I must say!

Oh ya, I love their beautifully done Chawanmushi too! Velvety egg custard cooked till just set literally melts-in-the-mouth with savory pleasure.

Salmon Mentaimayo Yaki Gozen (RM38.00)

What’s not to love? Grilled salmon with a layer of mentaiko on top, the magical boozy ingredients that will turn a dish from good to utterly sensational!

Complimentary dessert, choose from their list which includes Vanilla Ice Cream, Chocolate Ice Cream, Black Sesame Ice Cream, Matcha Ice Cream, Mizu Shingen Mochi, Abekawa Mochi, Matcha Shiratama Zenzai, Yuzu Sherbet. We were lucky that day to sample the seasonal dessert of sweet potato pudding. Do ask for it if it is still available during your visit.

The cuteness overloaded Mizu Shingen Mochi ^__^

Verdict: I had a satiated lunch at Kimi-Ya. Food was above average although this is not the most affordable Japanese food I’ve tried but rest assured, the quality and quantity of food is there.
