Ramen Bar Shi Shi Do @ Section 13, P.J

Nestled in Gasket Alley, a multi-purpose space that combines the functions of a lifestyle retails and services, as well as event venue, Ramen Bar Shi Shi Do is offshoot of Menya Shi Shi Do located right opposite in Jaya One.

The interior set an “authentic” feel that immediately take you back in the 70s of Japan where the yokocho (alleyways) was lined with tiny nostalgic Izakaya and bars. From the structure design, old movie posters, shop signs to traditional Chochin lanterns, the setting was thoroughly evoke the unique Japanese culture.

More seating at the second section of the restaurant and on mezzanine floor.

Some of the Instagrammable corners where taking photos should be compulsory for all visitors.

Other than their specialty Ramen, they also offers an array of  appetizers, salad, rice bowls, oden, yakitori, tempura, stir-fried food, hot pots and desserts. The beverage menu also equally extensive which comprised highball, cocktails, Umeshu, beers, beer cocktails and soft drinks.

Japanese Yam Dressed with Kimchi (RM8.00)

A mixture of diced Japanese yam & cucumber tossed with spicy and sour kimchi sauce. A refreshing appetizer to awake our appetite.

Assorted Yakitori (from RM5.00 to RM7.00)

Marinade and seasonings were on minimal side and these grilled meat weren’t as smokey and well charred as we would have hoped. Innard lovers would be delighted to find chicken gizzard, liver, heart and tail were in the list. Other options included chicken skin, neck, thigh, soft bones, beef tongue, pork belly, whole prawn, ginkgo nuts, garlics, leek and tomatoes.

Original Fried Garlic Chicken (RM18.00)

Pipping hot and well flavoured with addictive crisp topping, it didn’t take long for us to gobble it all up!

Buta Kimchi Rice (RM22.00)

Yakitori Don (RM23.00)

Portion of both rice dishes were somewhat smaller and less compatible to the price.  They were just decent but did not mind blowing, as though they were just mediocre.

Shishido Original Spicy Tonkotsu Hot Pot (RM21.00/pax)

Hot pot came with three choices of soup base, original tonkotsu, spicy tonkotsu and Mala tonkotsu as well as options of 1pax or 2pax serving.

Served with burner underneath, the pot was brimming with vegetable, mushrooms, clams, prawns, pork belly slices and tofu. The broth passed with flying colours, robust, creamy and the spiciness cut through the richness of the pork bone broth, provided a nice fiery punch. Ingredients add on were available as well.

Whisky Highball (Jim Beam – RM18.00)

♥Verdict: Please be reminded that Ramen Bar Shi Shi Do doesn’t take reservation, hence you only can walk in and have to expect a queue on weekends. Service was decent despite being busy and over all, our dinner was fairly good except for a few misses in between. Revisit? In between yes or no, I would say 😛 So drop by if you have chance and let me know your verdict!

  • You went to a ramen bar but did not have ramen? I can see the portions of the don were quite little (especially the buta kimchi rice with just a few slices of pork and onions+leek). With many restaurants not being filled during this time, glad to see that they’re doing good business. P/S: Didn’t take you to be a whisky drinker….hehehe! 😉

    • Kris, two of my friends had Ramen but those were the items that I’ve blogged in my Menya Shi Shi Do, so I just skipped that. 😛
That highball was quite mild, hehe 😛

  • this means i have to make a trip to gasket alley, been a loooong time.

  • Quite a quaint looking place. I haven’t had ramen for so long, so a bit craving for it The Japanese Yam dressd with Kimchi looks like rojak hah..hah..
