Yen Can Cook ~ Soy Sauce & Spring Onion Bean Curd (Vegetarian)

You can hardly see bean curd dishes on my dining table because my family (included myself) not a fan of this soy product. It is not my favourite food most probably because it’s so mildly flavored that it tastes like nothing. I like food with strong flavour after all. 😁

Commonly known as tofu, bean curd is made from ground, pressed soybeans and has been eaten for over 2,000 years. It comes in a number of different forms that are commonly used in Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Southeast Asian cuisine.

For the diversity of my recipes sharing in my blog, I would try out different recipes too just like today’s one. Perhaps this is one of the simplest tofu dishes you will make, level 101!

Ingredients (Serve: 3-4)

1 box firm tofu, slice 0.5inch thick

4-5 stalks spring onions, cut into to 3 inch length

Cooking oil

Sauce

1.5 tablespoons soy sauce

2 tablespoons cooking wine

2 tablespoons water

1 teaspoon sugar

A dash of white pepper

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Step 1: Combine all ingredients of sauce in a bowl, mix well and set aside.
Step 2: Gently pat dry the tofu slices with paper towel.
Step 3: Heat cooking oil in pan, put in the tofu slices (Step 2) and let them sear for 5 minutes on each sides until both sides creates golden crust.
Step 4: Push the tofu to one side of the pan and add the spring onion on the opposite side, followed by sauce mixture (Step 1). Let the tofu and spring onion simmering in the sauce until the sauce has thicken to your preferred consistency.
Step 5: Serve
