Beef Noodles @ Restoran Argyle, Taman Kok Lian

I immediately bookmarked this place when my friend told me about the beef noodles here. We had breakfast here after our trekking at Taman Tugu on last Sunday.

Restoran Argyle, a corner lot Kopitiam that houses a few food stalls at Taman Kok Lian. It doesn’t have any signboard but fret not, you may Waze ‘Jalan Batu Ambar’, and the Kopitiam is just opposite Lui Kopitiam & Cafe.

They offer dry or soup noodles with paired with beef slices, beef balls and assorted beef offal (tendon, tripe and brisket), price ranging from RM10 to RM17 (ingredients only without noodles). There are different combination of ingredients to choose from such as beef balls + beef tripe, beef tendon + beef beef slices or beef tendon + beef tripe, etc. If you want to try all, just get the “Ngau Zap”, like I did. (°◇°人°◇°)

The cooking station is manned by an old uncle (I assumed he is the owner) and ordering was taken by a lady. Other than beef noodles, there is Hakka noodles also, served with minced beef.

Ngau Zap Noodles (Small-RM13.00)

I chose to had Hakka noodles, dry and it was served with a bowl of beef soup laden with ingredients. The Hakka noodles was cooked to a nice springy texture, topped with some shredded braised beef. Portion was big but the scarce amount of meat wasn’t sufficient to flavoured the noodles and could have been better with some sauces.

The beef soup was on the clear side, filled very generously with achingly tender beef slices, bouncy beef ball, beef tendon, beef tripe and beef brisket, topped with coriander leaves. I could taste the beefy essence from the broth but rather mild for me. If you’re looking for beef noodles with stronger flavour like Taiwanese red braised beef noodles (Hong Shao Niu Rou Mian), you might be up for some disappointments. If you ask me, this beef noodles is decent and worth trying considering the good portion.

Very enticing Nasi Lemak stall with various of curries in bright red sheen.

Wallet friendly pricing but I only found out that the price had increased after I paid for my food. >_<  But still very affordable, nonetheless. (✯◡✯)

Nasi Lemak Ayam Rendang (RM5.50)

It’s a substantial portion that can be shared by two small eaters. Highly piled rice served with Chicken Rendang (drumstick+small pieces of breast+halved potato) drenched in gravy, as well as usual condiments of peanuts, fried anchovies, sliced cucumber and sambal.

The portion was indeed great value for money but the taste however, did not suit my taste bud. The flavour Chicken Rendang was a bit overwhelming on spices and the texture of the drumstick was a tad too soft (bordering mushy) which really irked me.

Char Kuey Teow (RM8.00)

One of the stalls that have very brisk business and hubby waiting for more than half an hour for his food to arrive. The fried noodles had good “Wok Hei” with pleasant smoky aroma, adequately moist but not greasy. This was indeed a satisfying plate of CKT.

♥Verdict: The Kopitiam was really packed during our visit and the table arrangement was quite cramped within the space. Apart from the food I shared, there are Chee Cheong Fun, chicken rice, pork noodles, Wonton Mee, Teowchew seafood porridge and seafood noodles (Sang Har Meen).
