ICC Pudu @ Pudu, Kuala Lumpur

I think this was my first time felt so frustrated when dined in at a place. Sweated until I was soaking wet after our lunch at ICC Pudu, even my bra was drenched in sweat, no joke I swear!

Posted the above photo in my social media and received comments from friends told me that I visited on the wrong timing (morning could be better) and seating area that I chose also wasn’t a conducive eating environment.

New home for the old Imbi Market (also known as Pasar Baru Bukit Bintang), ICC ( Integrated Commercial Complex) Pudu on Jalan Kijang, near Pudu Plaza is a multi-storey complex which houses a wet market, a food court plus banquet and multi-purpose halls.

The food court, consisting some of the city’s long-standing hawker stalls (mostly Chinese vendors) which offer wide variety of local delicacies. One can certainly feel the heat and humidity once entering the place due to lack of proper ventilation and the “open kitchen” concept of all the food stalls.

Hubby has been pestering me to visit ICC Pudu since our failed attempt on the Raya Holiday not long ago. The food court was thronged by patrons and packed to the brim, we left after failed to secure a table.

Steamed Fish Hor Fun (RM10.00)

This is the pull factor that attracted hubby for the ICC Pudu visit as he always like food with tangy flavours. It’s a plate of steamed flat rice noodles with fish slices, ala Teochew style. The flat rice noodles is the broader version of Hor Fun which called Dai Ban (Cantonese) or Da Ban (Mandarin), topped with tender fish slices (not sure what fish was used), sliced tomatoes, shredded ginger, chopped spring onion and fried garlic bits, drenched in appetizing pungent broth. Slippery smooth rice noodles and the sour and spicy broth was quite enjoyable and not many places offer this dish though.

Curry Mee (RM8.50)

The curry noddles didn’t come with cockles (originally) and I chose to omit the Char siew and I was given with poached chicken and bean sprouts ONLY without any others ingredients.  (╮╯╭)

My bowl of Curry Mee was served with a rather scarce amount of curry soup, but thankfully it was redolent with spices and distinct richness of curry. The poached chicken was tender and with curry gravy poured over it. A decent bowl of Curry Mee I would say.

Hainan Iced Coffee from Lintang 138, one of the vendors with the longest queue. According to hubby, it was thick and good.

Chef Ming’s Homemade Buns

Yellow Glutinous Rice Wine Chicken Bun (4pcs-RM6.00)

The mini buns were filled with chicken bits, shredded wood ear fungus and ginger, beautifully infused with fragrant rice wine. It’s a lovely burst of savoury goodness when you bite into the soft bun!

Other options if you don’t fancy rice wine chicken and they are selling frozen baos too.

♥Verdict: Like what I said on the beginning of the post, my dining experience at ICC Pudu was torturing due the stuffy environment of the food court. I already told hubby that no matter how good the food is, I will never go back again and the fact is the food that I tried this time, nothing really wowed me too. ◔_◔

  • Oh dear, the ventilation/insulation must be bad that the place traps heat. I would be very annoyed too. Since nothing you ate wowed you, I can understand why you don’t want to return.

    • PH, some of my friends commented that seating near the entrance would be more okay, but the problem is we didn’t have chance to choose as the place was so packed and we needed to grab any vacant table that we saw. Friend also suggested that we should go in the morning, instead of afternoon. >_<

  • I actually dislike coming to this place for the very reasons you mentioned, hot & humid, and always perpetually crowded (I hate the parking space too). But we sucked it up coz our favourite curry laksa stall was here but since they moved, we haven’t been back for 3 years. Haha, steam fish hor fun wouldn’t interest me coz if there’s one style of steam fish I don’t fancy, it’s teochew style. I’ve not seen a bowl of curry mee so stingy with its curry! >.< Lintang 138 Hainan coffee having a long queue? What I know is most people flock here for Ah Weng Koh's Hainan coffee/tea, his place always cannot find seat. Oh, the pau guy is famous for his rice wine buns.

    • Kris, actually I thought the one I tried was your favourite curry mee because I remember I read your post before mentioned about it. Who knows….. LOL
A Weng Koh still famous I think but I also read that the standard dropped a lot and this Lintang 138 claypot coffee is the latest “hot cake” in ICC Pudu.

  • Snowflake

  • And I think you should stick to posting your own lousy cooking than food you eat outside. It’s more secured!

  • Tips going there to eat without coming out like soaked in rain

    1. Don’t go weekend/public holiday.
    2. On week day be there by 11.30am before lunch crowd are in
    3. Siting is either outside the Ah Wen kor or the opposite side the best, not too crowded BUT can’t order food from inside to that two side
    4. Sitting inside must seat the area on left facing open air, that’s the only side the air circulation is good.

  • OMG. The steam bun was horrible.
