Kong Yeah Restaurant @ Laman Rimbunan, Kepong
To take the advantage of one-month free rides on all public transport operated by RapidKL, in conjunction of celebrating the new MRT Putrajaya Line’s opening two months ago, we took the train from the Bandar Sri Damansara Sentral station (one of the stations near my house) to Kepong Baru station for dinner.
The Kepong Baru MRT station is strategically located right on the stretch of shops at Laman Rimbunan, a popular F&B hub at Kepong area. Getting parking at this place can be slightly challenging, so public transport is a good option if you’re planning to come here.
We initially wanted to try a Thai restaurant, but Sam opted for this Hong Kong style restaurant as she couldn’t find anything that tickled her fancy. (-“-;)
Kong Yeah Restaurant, a Hong Kong style restaurant, aka Cha Chan Teng which has two outlets at this commercial area.
The interior is exuberantly evokes Hong Kong’s culture with ornaments and furnishing that give you a feeling on dining at one of the Cha Chan Teng in Kowloon, Hong Kong.
Hong Kong Style Milk Tea with Coffee (Cold – RM7.90)
Commonly known as Yuen Yeung, a popular beverage in Hong Kong, made from a mixture of coffee and tea.
Curry Fish Balls (RM4.90)
A type of street food that commonly found in Hong Kong. Unfortunately, this was a failed version for its fishy and mushy fish balls.
Oily Rice with Luncheon Meat & Char Siew (RM19.90)
Named as LaZa Fan (Cantonese) in the menu, literally means “dirty rice”. =.=” It’s a goodness packed guilty rice bowl comprised luncheon meat, BBQ pork (Char Siew), Chinese sausage (Lap Cheong), crispy bacon, crunchy fried lard (Zhu Yao Zha) and sunny side up. The soy sauce flavoured rice was further moisten with the luscious runny yolk, and lastly rounded off with those delicious stuffs that provided a convincing textures to the dish. It’s a combination that’s just fail-proof.
Steamed Minced Pork Patty with Preserved Vegetable with Rice (RM13.90)
I have soft spot for steamed minced pork and I was consoled by this Mui Choy steamed minced pork patty in pure contentment. Flavours was bold with tasty savoury note from the preserved veggie.
Nissin Noodles with Luncheon Meat and Fried Egg (RM14.90)
Sam always fancy those instant noodles, they always be her choice whenever she sees it in the menu. (ー_ー;)
This was our revisit of their another outlet.
The setting of this restaurant is different with the previous outlet that we visited, but equally fascinating with echoing Hong Kong theme.
Korean Honey Citron Tea (RM7.90)
Fried Pork Chop with Rice (RM17.90)
Well flavoured pork chop with adequate tenderness.
Unknown Fried Rice (RM15.90)
The name of this dish ignited our curiosity as there’s no ingredients was mentioned in the menu and the Cantonese name is 求其炒飯 (Kao Kei Chao Fan), which means “Cincai” fried rice.
Note: Cincai = A Malaysian Slang means whatever or to describe an action where one does anything casually or as one pleases.
The egg fried rice was studded with diced pork chop, ham and chopped spring onion. The flavour was decent but slightly wet to my liking, I prefer mine “looser” and more “fluffy”.
Macaroni Set (RM15.90)
From the All Day Breakfast Set menu which is available on weekends and public holidays only. The set came with one mains + 1 drink of your choice.
Another typical dish at Hong Kong Cha Chan Teng. Macaroni, ham, bacon, corns kernels and diced carrot in chicken soup. I like the simplicity and it’s a total comfort food for me.
Another option in the menu is Scrambled Egg & Ham Sandwich.
Verdict: Like most of the Hong Kong Cha Chan Teng, the menu is extensive and the choices are sufficient to please everyone of all ages. Food wise, nothing too outstanding but still a viable option if you’re looking for some Hong Kong style fare in this area.

Fishy fish balls already hard to take, let alone mushy! >_< Ooo, I like that LaZa fan, the dirtier, the better….lol! 😀 We just had steamed pork patty rice too (very homey dish) from our go-to Yeah Cuisine (that specialises in pork patties with 7 flavours). Yeah, nissin noodles is quite a staple at cha chan teng (you can make instant noodles for Sam at home but must top with luncheon meat and fried egg lah). I like fried rice with spring onions and that macaroni soup looks very comforting. P/S: Having two outlets in the same vicinity means they're doing well…everybody likes comfort food with good prices. ^_~
Kris, that Yeah Cuisine sound familiar, is it famous for dishes with plenty of Zhu Yao Zha also?
I always try to avoid cooking instant noodles at home for Sam, unless I really lazy on that day. 😛
You know what, the owner(s) of this restaurant also open another pork noodles shop at the same commercial area recently. Geng!
Yes, you can help yourselves to the unlimited chee yau char! 😉
Rice with luncheon meat can never go wrong, actually luncheon meat can never go wrong
KY, yeah, couldn’t agree more!
