Viet Nomms @ Taman Usahawan Kepong

Not noticing that there’re several new Vietnamese restaurants have been sprouting up in my area and I tried one of them recently which is quite good in my book.

Located beside Aeon Big Kepong, Viet Nomms is one of the many eateries in this vicinity. There’s a massive development in this area with many new residential and commercial property projects in the progress because of the operation of the new MRT Putrajaya Line.

The front part of the restaurant showcased a cooking station as well as display shelves filled with Vietnamese food products for sale.

Further inside was their dining area dressed in yellowish lighting, furnished with sturdy marble top tables and wooden chairs. Both sides of wall were beautifully decorated with framed monochrome pictures and contrasting colourful mural of Vietnamese food.

Story behind the restaurant – brainchild of a Vietnamese wife and Malaysian husband.

Condiments such as Vietnamese fish sauce, pickled garlic, chili sauce and soy sauce was placed on every table.

Vietnamese Iced Coffee (RM9.00)

The beverage menu featuring the iconic Vietnamese coffees, some imported Vietnamese drinks, special Vietnamese drink (such as Sweet Tamarind Juice, Vietnamese Herbal Drink & Vietnamese Sweet Tea), fruit juices and soft drink.

The food menu was categorized into Vietnamese sandwiches aka Bánh Mì, main dishes (rice dishes and porridge), noodles and snacks. There were more than 10 choices of Bánh Mì with different filling of Vietnamese Ham, Sardine & Fried Egg, Beef Stew, Sauteed Beef Cubes, Grilled Pork, Fish and etc. The choices of rice and noodles dishes were sufficient with the essential Phở (with choices of Kuey Teow or Vermicelli) with pork ribs, beef, chicken, seafood and fish, assorted Cơm (rice dishes) with dishes such as Grilled Pork Chop, Lemongrass Chicken, Beef Stew, Braised Pork Belly in Coconut Juice and Pork Porridge. Price ranging from RM14 to RM21.

Vietnamese Sliced Beef Kuey Teow Soup (RM21.00)

Go to a Vietnamese restaurant and not order a Phở would be sacrilegious.

The big bowl of pipping hot Phở consisted of tender beef slices, tendon and beef ball, along with a luscious and hearty beef broth (with mild sweet note) spiced up with Vietnamese flat rice noodles.  Each slurp of the noodles and sip of the broth is beautifully satisfying.

Diners can add their preference of fresh herbs, bean sprouts and lime as well as chili to jazz up their Phở.

Grilled Pork Chop with Rice (RM16.00)

Topped with aromatic scallion oil, the grilled pork chop although not the tenderest we’ve eaten but it’s not too dry with marinade that imparted a sensational flavours to it. The dish came with a complimentary bowl of soup, pickles and Chả Trứng Hấp (steamed egg meatloaf ).

Chả Trứng Hấp, Vietnamese steamed egg meatloaf. It had a soft texture with combination of minced meat, egg, shredded wood ear mushrooms and mung bean noodles.  Flavour was rather salty for hubby but I’m okay with it.

Vietnamese Grilled Pork Bánh Mì (RM12.00)

Another quintessential Vietnamese dish – Bánh Mì, which is Vietnamese sandwich of baguette filled with selected cold cuts, pate, pickled vegetables and fresh herbs. We opted for their recommendation of grilled pork Bánh Mì. The golden crispy baguette was generously filled with tender strips of smoky grilled pork, coupled with with creamy pate, fresh crunchy vegetables and herbs.

Complimentary chilled mung bean dessert.

Verdict: Food prepared by Vietnamese and there was a group of Vietnamese customers in the restaurant when we was there, the authenticity of the food was unquestionably. Good portion, good flavours and reasonable priced, we certainly love to make a return to further their menu.

  • Very positive review from you so must be worth a visit. All the dishes look quite good and you have given me an idea to attempt a steamed egg meatloaf.

  • I like the pictures of your food against the pictures on the wall. Your hubby is so sporting lah to hold up the food for you (my husband won’t be caught dead doing that)! >_< Such good fortune to have a good Vietnamese eatery in your taman. My taman not a single Vietnamese restaurant! 🙁

  • Kris, my family already used to my “pattern” of taking photos before they can tuck into their food as I have been blogging for more than 15 years. ^__*
