Oki Shokudo @ Damansara Kim

Since nothing in the mall tickled we fancy, we decided to drive out to Damansara Kim area looked for dinner after spending half day in the mall nearby. We initially wanted to dine in at Euro Deli but changed our mind when we saw Oki Shokudo that we never tried before.

No prize for guessing what food Oki Shokudo is serving because obviously from its name, we know that it’s a Japanese restaurant, Oki=Okinawa, Shokudo = restaurant or cafeteria in Japanese.

The dining space is neat and simple, with many cute drawings decorates the walls.

After checked out their menu, we found that Oki Shokudo offers healthy food in form of their signature fish broth Ramen, rice, wraps, ala carte dishes, pickles and beverages. All dishes in the menu are indicated with “recommended intake advice” as shown as photo above.

To accommodate variety of diet groups (for example Keto, Diabetic diet, gluten free), the restaurant provided options like Konjac noodles, quinoa millet to replace noodles and white rice. Healthy options such as fishes free from hormone and anti-biotics, pickles with less sugar and salt, petite size desserts (to limit the sugar intake >_<“), organic liver tonic wine and Kombucha are available here too.

Keto Buttery Lemon Tea – Sugar Free (RM12.00)

Braised Meat Rice (RM10.50)

Served with pickled cabbage and clear soup, the portion of the braised meat rice (Lu Rou Fan) was rather small and it was a more saucy version. The braised meat was savoury but not overly salty. I couldn’t figure out what were those reddish threads garnish, anyone knows?

Shoyu Ramen (RM18.00)

Instead of the common pork bone soup base (Tonkotsu) or chicken soup, the Ramen at Oki Shokudo is served with the less oily fish broth. The broth was light with an adequate savouriness from the soy sauce. The Ramen came with chicken Chashu, Ajitama, shredded wood ear fungus, Nori sheet and plenty of chopped spring onion.

Viral Pink Ramen (RM20.00)

This is indeed an aesthetically pleasing and Insta-worthy bowl of Ramen with its dreamy pink shade broth. The addition of beetroot and organic soy milk not only contributed to the fascinating appearance but also an earthy and nutty flavour to the broth.

Verdict: Honestly, the conventional Tonkotsu Ramen still our favourite but this lighter and “cleaner” version certainly worth trying from time to time especially when you want a healthy eating to “purify” your body. (^∀^)

  • First time see a restaurant telling us what to eat less of (lol)! I’m certainly a supporter of a balanced diet but first time coming across 1/4 of it to be fermented vegetables. Even if it’s viral or aethestically pleasing, I don’t think I can bring myself to drink pink soup…if it’s a dessert, maybe-lah. I would like the light, less oily, fish broth since I usually find pork bone or tonkotsu broth too robust. P/S: Those super-fine red shreds are Japanese dry chilli threads (you can buy it ready made like that, I think they call it ito togarashi).

    • Kris, haha, I don’t really read the whole article but like you said, 1/4 of fermented veggies in diet is quite weird.
The pink broth is actually not awkward at all because beetroot is commonly used for Chinese boiled soup too.
