Kafe Ipoh Ipoh @ SS2, P.J

This post combines my two visits to Kafe Ipoh Ipoh, tried different food in both visits and they were a pleasant dining experience, I would say. (^ω^)

The seating are partitioned like the photo above which is different with the previous setting that I saw in other blogs. There are colourful mini umbrellas on the ceiling mimics the decoration of the Concubine Lane in Ipoh, murals of Ipoh streets view as well as the black and white framed photos adorn the walls.

The menu offers classic Ipoh fare such as Ipoh Hor Fun, Wonton Mee and Curry Mee served with shredded chicken, prawns, Kampung Chicken or Char Siew, Ipoh Dry Curry Noodles, Kampung Chicken or Char Siew Rice, Chee Cheong Fun with different sauce, as well as ala carte poached Kampung Chicken, Char Siew and some snacks. I found that some of the prices in the menu had been increased when I referred back to the menu photos that I took, please take note on this.

Signature Ipoh White Coffee C (Big, Hot – RM5.70)

Rich and aromatic coffee to wake you up. ~匸Pヽ(・ω・`)

Kampung Style Wonton Mee with Char Siew (RM14.50)

Served with decent portion of fatty Char Siew (as stated in the menu), two pieces small fried Wonton and blanched vegetables, the noodle was cooked to a perfection springy and al-dente texture. The dark soy sauce concoction was pleasantly flavourful with fragrance of pork lard as well as hint of the savouriness from the minced meat bits.

Another highlight of the noodle was the Char Siew in deep mahogany colour with a layer of caramelized crust. The meat was tender, slightly on fatty side, with good balance of sweetness and savouriness.

Classic Prawn Hor Fun (RM15.90)

The appearance of the Ipoh Hor Fun certainly on point with a layer of that distinctive orangey prawn oil. The broth possessed an evocative flavours of sweetness and umami from the prawns heads and shells. This came with only prawns (5-6 peices) and they were fresh and succulent.

Curry with Char Siew (RM16.90)

Thick and creamy curry broth, the fragrance of the coconut milk was apparent. Other than Char Siew, there were fried bean curd sheets, pork skin and long beans.

Chee Cheong Fun with Minced Meat & Mushroom Gravy (RM9.50)

Smooth slippery rice roll was submerged in a pool of light yet savoury tasting gravy, studded with minced meat and mushroom. The flavour was amped up by the fried onion and generous sprinkles of sesame seeds.

Chee Cheong Fun with Fried Onion Oil & Premium Soy Sauce (RM7.50)

My favourite way to enjoy MY CCF. A simple combination of dressing that give prominence to the delightful silky texture and rice aroma of the CCF.

Others dressing/gravy options included Ipoh (red) sweet sauce, curry pork rind and Ipoh style Wen Lou which is combination of Ipoh sweet sauce, mushroom sauce and chili sauce.

Special promotion for CCF.

Verdict: Like what I mentioned at the beginning of the post, we enjoyed immensely the food we had at Ipoh Ipoh. In sum, this is a place that we’ll happy to return to many times over.

  • hah..hah… I like the “We do not serve lean char siew”! I must go visit since this is near me.

  • I’ve tried the kshf, wantan mee, curry mee, ccf, poached chicken and white coffee here….but disappointingly, only the kshf got my seal of approval (although I must say that the curry mee does look different now). This is also the shop where I wrote about how the owner is rude to his customers who give him a bad review (read this through Google and FB reviews). >_< My husband says he will not support such arrogant businesses.
