Hainan Lao Chicken Rice @ Desa Aman Puri
As the name implies, Hainanese Chicken Rice take center stage at this neighbourhood restaurant – Hainan Lao Chicken Rice. The semi-open kitchen allows diners to catch a glimpse of some kitchen actions.
Deep Fried Wontons (12pcs – RM9.90)
These morsels of freshly fried Wonton were enjoyably crunchy.
The rice set is a platter that comes with rice, chicken, soup with fish ball, chili dipping, ginger sauce and pickled cucumber.
The chili sauce was fibrous and spicy, however it could have done with more vinegar or lime to pick up the acidity. I would usually disregard ginger sauce when comes to chicken rice, but the ginger and spring onion sauce here was fragrant and delicious. I also glad that they offer pickled cucumber which was delectable and good to refresh the palate.
One spoonful and I was taken. The rice was capably executed with a slightly glutinous texture and infused with an enticing flavour.
White Chicken Thigh Set (RM13.90)
White Chicken Breast Set (RM12.90)
Both poached chicken cut sufficiently tender and I like that the chicken skin layer was thin. The soy sauce and fried garlic bits did elevate the flavours of the meat.
Roasted Chicken Thigh Set (RM13.90)
The roasted chicken was exceed my expectation with its flavourful marinade which thoroughly infused to the skin and the meat.
Verdict: Decent food, comfortable environment, good service and wallet friendly pricing, I can foresee that this place would become our frequent dinner spot.

Love those garlic bits
KY, I scooped them out and gave to my hubby, lol…..
If you didn’t mention that that was a ginger dip, I would have thought it was some kind of pickled ham choy. I can foresee that the rice is good as it’s glistening with nicely separated grains. That slight glutinous texture you taste is probably from the inclusion of glutinous rice (some chicken rice stalls do that).
Kris, I don’t think pickled Ham Choy will be served in such finely chopped form, hehe. 😛
Wow, I did’t know glutinous rice are added for better texture , but how you knew this “secret”?
I can’t remember where or from whom I first heard it from….I think I watched some video on chicken rice place where someone mentioned that glutinous rice is used…but before that I’ve also heard it from someone (a few actually) that if the rice has a slightly sticky texture, it’s probably due to the addition of glutinous rice. After knowing that, I placed particular attention when I was eating chicken rice that had that sticky texture and it did taste somewhat like glutinous rice. ^_~ P/S: I believe that’s how those Melaka chicken rice balls get formed so perfectly (sticking together) because of the presence of sticky rice (that’s why I don’t like coz too sticky from too much glutinous rice, a little for texture is fine).
