Sinui Kkulmat @ Bandar Menjalara, Kepong

Hubby has been eyeing on Restaurant Sinui Kkulmat for a some time and finally we made our maiden visit on last month.

The restaurant was full house and a queue was forming in front of the shop, so we joined in.

The wait wasn’t take too long, we were seated after 15 minutes and ordering was a breeze because we already perused the menu while we were in the line. As you can see from the photo, the restaurant setting and room divider are exactly look like an office (with manager room and meeting room LOL), which is obviously from the previous tenant.

The delicious spread of refillable Banchan.

Sinui Kkulmat’s selection is peerlessly compact, focuses more on soups and stews, with quite a few interesting dishes such as Bean Sprout with Dried Pollack (RM30), Dried Radish Leaf Bean Paste Soup (RM25), Mallow Bean Paste Soup (RM25) and Flower Crabs Stew (RM80). There are also noodle dishes included both cold and hot noodles, like Janchi Guksu (RM18), Memil Guksu (RM18), Bibim Guksu (RM18), as well as other choices of dish such as dumplings (RM15), Tteokbokki, Spicy Pork Stir Fry (RM30) and Braised Pork Ribs (RM120-1kg).

Pork Bones with Dried Veggie Soup (RM25.00)

It’s a fully loaded pot of soup with fermented flavour of soybean paste, rounded out with meaty pork bones and cooked-till-soft dried vegetables for extra dynamics of savouriness. There were decent amount of sliced fresh red chilies and bird eye chillies to provide good dose of spiciness to the broth.

Kimchi JJigae (RM25.00)

It’s one of the most-loved of all the stews in Korean cuisine. The stew was full of flavor – spicy, sour, salty and savory. The tummy warming pot of Kimchi stew was packed Kimchi, pork slices, glass noodles (sweet potato noodles) and bean curd, it’s so hearty and went well with a bowl of steamed rice.

Beef Radish Soup (RM30.00)

The soup is non-spicy, so it’s a perfect choice for Sam, and as a radish lover, she enjoyed the soup immensely. The broth was mild tasting, forefronts the clean taste of the beefy essence as well as sweetness of the radish. However, the texture of the beef was a bit tough and I think the radish could be softer.

Verdict: Set aside the long queue and parking problem in this area, the food at Sinui Kkulmat was rather satisfying and I would like to check out the remainder of the menu too. Revisit, why not!

  • The beef in the beef radish soup looks a little stringy. The kimchi jjigae looks like a better bet. Oh, Sam like radish soup…you can easily boil this at home. I like to make mine with pork ribs, carrot and white peppercorns. ^_~

    • Kris, I never add peppercorns for my white radish soup and it sound yummy with this extra ingredients. Perhaps I can add small amount next time to test if Sam can accept the heat. 😛

  • Mmmm… sounds like a very good find! I would want that pork bone soup. It’s a bit out of the way for me and my brother is not very keen to go too far from our place for food. I must fine recipe for Korean pork bone soup. Kimchi Jigae I am already an expert LOL!
