Hoshiki Japanese Izakaya @ Damansara Utama, P.J

We recently stumbled upon Hoshiki Japanese Izakaya, a new spot that’s quickly becoming a favourite.

From the moment my friends and I walked in, the cozy vibe and mouth-watering aromas got us excited. We ended up ordering a bunch of dishes, and honestly, every single one was a hit. The quality and flavours really stood out, making this place a delightful surprise.

Merging a mix of sake, beer and snacks, Izakaya in Japan is traditionally used as a spot for late-night workers. With the constant overtime at city offices, it’s no surprise that modern Izakaya makes a popular trip for urbanites looking for a post-work retreat.

The owners conceptualize a place where everyone can hang out after a long’s day at work. Thus Hoshiki Japanese Izakaya was born, a casual Izakaya place to chill, to drink and to eat some awesome Kushiyaki.

The restaurant is bedecked with colourful Wagasa and decorative Noren, Sake bottles, Japanese inspired posters and paintings. Diners can choose to be seated indoors and the bar which allow you to watch the chefs work in the open-kitchen grill or get a seat at the al-fresco area.

Private rooms are available in addition to the spacious main dining area.

Other than the usual draught beers, Hoshiki also offers draught Sake, something you don’t get to see everyday!

Staying true to their rendition of Izakaya, Hoshiki’s food menu features assorted grilled skewers and small plates to pair with your Sake or beers. Alternatively, this Izakaya’s menu also provides delicious non-grilled specialities including salads, Sashimi, Sushi, Maki rolls, Ramen and Donburi, for an additional top-up. Weekday set lunch is available as well, priced from RM12.90-RM45.90/set, includes mains, salad and Chawanmushi.

The beverage menu has plenty of highballs, cocktails, beers, wines, Sake, as well as Japanese Shochu and Umeshu to whet your whistle.

Fried Tiny Shrimps (RM9.90)

Fried Chicken Soft Bones (RM20.90)

Bar bites that go well with your drinks. The Fried Tiny Shrimps was the crowd pleaser for its delightful crunchiness and savouriness. The Fried Chicken Soft Bones on the other hand didn’t tickle our fancy. ◔_◔

Nori Tacos Sashimi (RM39.90)

Fried battered seaweed (think one of our CNY snacks), topped with cube cut Sashimi sit on bed of wasabi mayo. One big bite and you know you’re in for a treat with a pleasing textural contrast from different ingredients, as well as the sweetness of the fresh Sashimi.

Choregi Salad (RM9.90)

Ladies Finger with Citrus Vinegar (RM9.90)

Appetizers to freshen up our palate.

Suntory Kakubin Highball (RM20.00) & Green Tea (RM3.00)

Enjoy you boozy times with incredible rock bottom deal of Hoshiki’s All Day & All Night long Happy Hour promotion! 5 mugs for RM80.00 only (price per mug -RM20.00), for Sui Gin, Heineken, Guinness and Dewar 8 Years Japanese Whisky Highball!                         (*^-^)ノ■☆■ヾ(^-^*)

Let the action begin!

Savoury, succulent, and simple – these are the perfect descriptors for Yakitori and Kushiyaki.  Its smoky texture, coupled with its sweet and salty sauce, results in a delightful explosion of flavours. These skewers go excellently well with a beer, cocktail or both!
Available from 1pm onwards for weekends and 5pm onwards on weekdays, Hoshiki’s Kushiyaki’s menu covers the classic chicken skewers to the more adventurous ones like chicken liver, gizzard, heart and tail, there’s something for everyone.

Chicken Skin (RM5.00)

MVP (most valuable player) of the night! Well, the crunchy grilled chicken skin is a something of a treat. Indulge in it once in a while is definitely good for the soul….… (•ө•)♡

Garlic (RM3.00)

The ambience was really warm and cozy with Mother Nature changing from dusk into midnight blue. Much laughters and cheers added the Izakaya ambience that night! Call us gluttons but it was just a perfect evening of great companies of friends, beers and BBQ… in no certain order!

More food for us!

Chicken Karaage (RM11.90)

The batter was a bit thick and I think the chicken pieces could have been better with stronger marinade.

Crab Meat Mayo Maki Roll (RM24.90)

This was rather mediocre though.

Pork Lard Udon (RM22.90)

The silky smooth Udon was tossed with fragrant and savoury soy sauce concoction resembles the Kou Lou Mee (dry noodles) had us compulsively slurping up every strand.

Super Oyster Pancake (RM38.00)

Spring onion pancake with big oyster topping, what’s not to like!
