Tokii Sushi @ Bandar Menjalara, Kepong

I always have that overwhelming urge to pay a revisit to Shin Zushi because I was really pleased with the food and the reasonable price tag here, especially there’s a new outlet nearer to me now at Laman Rimbunan. However, my plan to dine in at Shin Zushi again when the smoke clears is proved to be unsuccessful because this latest outlet has also become a magnet to Japanese food lovers in this area.

But, guess what – I discovered a replacement!

These are part of the restaurant’s menus to let you make judgement on the pricing, while  the food quality had us (me, hubby and Sam :P) nodding away in agreement.

The new kid on the block in the bustling Bandar Menjalara terrain, Tokii Sushi is one of the few options of Japanese restaurant in the neighbourhood’s culinary cocoon.

The restaurant boasts a modern yet casual interior with panels and partitions in light wooden tune. Bright orange cushioned chairs as well as the vibrant Japanese inspired murals convey a lively vibe in the setting.

I’m glad to see complimentary ginger pickles on the table which I could enjoy to my heart’s content.

Salmon Sashimi (RM10.00)

For this price, we have no cause for complaint. But of course, the freshness was on point nonetheless.

Peppercorn Maguro (RM3.00/pcs)

Maguro has become the family’s new favourite. The peppercorn crust gave the Maguro a mild heat and the textural contrast.

Mix Fish Ceviche (RM23.00)

Ceviche is a classic Latin American appetizer made with fresh fish or shrimp cured with lime juice and tossed with vegetables like cucumber, tomato, red onion, cilantro, and optional avocado.

This was my first try on Ceviche (in a Japanese restaurant ◔_◔), Tokii Sushi rendition was a vibrant and tangy mixture of diced Salmon, Tuna, Butterfish, avocado, sliced raw onion and tiny bits of cilantro, topped with Ikura for that satisfying briny pop sensation.

Bara Chirashi Don (RM25.00)

If you enjoy assorted fresh Sashimi, Bara Chirashi Don is an ideal option which you can have several types of Sashimi at one go.

The colourful rice bowl was topped with diced Salmon, Maguro, octopus, Tuna, Tamago, cucumber, Ikura and sprinkles of sesame. We enjoyed immensely the top notch freshness of the fish as well as the varied textures from different ingredients in the dish.

Wakame Nameko Udon (RM13.00)

Simple comfort food of seaweed and mushroom Udon in light Dashi broth. There were Kamaboko (Japanese fish cakes) and spinach as well.

Verdict: Certainly a great discovery for affordable Japanese food in my heighbourhood!  \(^o^)/
