Iam Pochana @ Bangkok
This was the dinner on our third day in Bangkok, quite a late one on 8.30pm because we wanted to avoid the afternoon rush hour but still, the traffic was rather congested. Conclusion of my 5D4N trip, Bangkok’s rush hour occurs from 7am to 9pm, daily. 😭
Iam Pochana, an eatery that never appear in any of the Youtube videos that I watched when I did my research for this trip. It means, this place is out of tourists’ radar and my analysis was proved correct when we heard that all other patrons conversed in Thai. ≧◡≦
Located in an old neighbourhood near Chinatown, Iam Pochana is 70-year-old eatery serves beef soup noodles and hotpot, as well as Thai-Chinese stir fry dishes. The restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor seating, but most of the patrons opt to be seated on its open-air seating which reflects the local dining culture (with cars and motorcycles drive pass your table from time to time =.=”) and for better air circulation.
Iam Pochana stays open until the early hours (3am), making it an ideal spot for a hearty meal after a night out.
The cooking station in front of the shop was well stocked with assorted beef innard, vegetables and a huge pot of beef broth with a layer of floating oil. >_<
Other than the beef noodles and hotpot, the restaurant extensive menu also features a long list of rice and noodle dishes (with a dish), ala carte dishes, soups and salads, with very affordable price of nothing exceed 200 Baht.
Beef Hotpot (Top 3 Set – 350 Baht)
Featuring a pot of beef broth and a plate of ingredients comprised thin beef slices, beef balls, beef flank, beef knuckle and water spinach.
The broth was surprisingly clear unlike the greasy one in the aforementioned huge pot. It was beautifully infused with beef essence, not the strongest I’ve tasted but I thought it’s more acceptable for most people. The quality of the ingredients were not up much.
Tripe (80 Baht)
Liver (80 Baht)
We added on these for our hotpot and glad that they were fresh and well prepared.
The dipping chili sauce was slightly zing and moderate in spiciness, it made for a good condiment to kick up the flavour of the ingredients.
Thin Rice Noodles Fried With Seafood & Water Mimosa (140 Baht)
This wasn’t the fried Meehoon that we’re accustomed to eat. The flavour was rather unique – savory with mild hint of sweetness, followed by a gentle chili heat gradually kicked in. The noodles was accompanied by brown cuttlefish, prawns and Water Mimosa that I tried before at Kompassion, but these were tenderer and not as fibrous.
Verdict: Although the food did not hit us with big surprise but it was a delightful experience that captures the essence of local dining culture.

Is there a typo error….5D2N…5 days but only 2 nights…what happened to the other 2 nights? The fried noodle dish is indeed unique…the plate almost resembles sotong kangkung but with meehoon…lol! 😀 Does water mimosa taste very different from kangkung?
Kris, yes, it’s typo and I amended it. The water mimosa doesn’t have very significant taste and doesn’t taste very different with Kangkung, but once you have a bite, you’ll know it’s not Kangkung. 😛
