Abang Adik Kopitiam @ Bandar Menjalara, Kepong
It’s another worthy addition to my list of weekend makan place which nestled in my favourite neighbourhood – Bandar Menjalara, Kepong.
Although named as Kopitiam, the setting of Abang Adik Kopitiam offered more than a typical Kopitiam that we are accustomed to. Bright, air conditioned, neatly spaced seating, it’s a very comfortable and pleasant atmosphere for a good dining experience.
Assorted rice and noodle dishes took center stage in the menu, the choices included Nasi Lemak, fried rice, rice served with dishes, Wonton Mee, PanMee, Asam Laksa, curry noodles, pastas, Mee Siam, Thai Mama Mee, porridge and etc. There were western food such as chicken chop, fish and chips, All Day Breakfast, croissants with different fillings, as well as some local favourites like half boiled eggs and Roti Bakar.
Cham (Hot – RM3.90)
The beverage menu boasted a wide selection of local drinks of coffee, tea, Milo, Nescafe, Syrup Bandung, Limau Asam Boi, soft drinks and fruit juices. There were shaved ice, milk shakes, fruit teas, slushies, and Tong Sui too.
Nasi Lemak with BBQ Chicken (RM16.50)
Other choices included Nasi Lemak with fried whole leg (RM15.50), curry chicken/Sambal Sotong/Chicken Rendang (RM13.30) and BBQ Sotong (RM19).
Highly recommended by the boss, this grilled chicken was indeed rather praiseworthy. The grilled chicken whole leg was succulent, slathered with their homemade sauce which was provocative in flavour – sweet, savoury and a little spicy, all the flavours blended together in perfect harmony.
The rice was beautifully infused with coconut milk and Pandan flavour. Served with two types of Sambal, one was the regular Sambal Bawang, the other one was sweet-spicy, but both were rather low in spiciness.
Volcano Fried Rice (RM12.80)
Judging from the name, I was expecting a fiery hot version of fried rice but the spiciness turned out to be rather mild. The taste was decent, savoury enough to whet your appetite but it’s quite odd to have Napa Cabbage in fried rice. Hehe ◔_◔
Chicken Porridge (RM11.80)
Topped with fried garlic bits, fried onion oil, pepper and chopped spring onion, the chicken porridge scored marks in terms of flavour and texture.
Verdict: Affordable price, decent food, comfy environment and attentive service, these pretty sum up my first dining experience here. (^^)b

Wow the nasi lemak fried rice were served in a nice dulang. Glad that you had a positive experience. I see that they hung lanterns at the entrance.
PH, yah, they use nice kitchenware for their food, nice to see. 🙂
CNY is up everywhere but they didn’t play DOng Dong Ciang songs, haha!
hai choi yen, i m you tiong (5SA),is this your restaurant
Hi Tiong. This isn’t my restaurant, I just dined in here before.
With a name like Abang Adik, I would have thought this is a halal place but I see lanterns decor and mainly Chinese patrons? The grilled chicken with that homemade sambal on top does look enticing. I’m assuming the porridge is not your dish seeing that it’s filled abundantly with fried shallots and garlic (to your horror)…lol!
Kris, it’s a pork free restaurant as I can’t see pork in their menu. The sauce did well to enhance the overall flavour of that grilled chicken. You’re correct, that porridge was Sam’s order but if I had that I’ll scoop out all the fried garlic and shallot and give it to hubby. 😛
Its not halal right? As the chicken is not muslim slaughtered.
It will be better if the operator gets the chicken, ducks or poultry supplies from the muslim companies.. and get the halal recognition from Jakim.
Ruhana, I don’t think they are Halal certificated and I’m not sure if the owner has plan to get Halal recognition.
That nasi lemak looks good but the pricing is a bit .. steep also kan.
KY, cafe standard price lor…. 😛
