Authentic Nabe @ Kepong
When dine-in was still allowed………
It’s been a while since my last makan gathering with my family due to the dine-in restrictions during CMCO. So when the SOPs were eased, I suggested a dinner gathering at this place which shared by a Youtuber that I followed.
Located at a rather secluded place at Kepong (near Aeon Kepong/ Church of Jesus Caritas), beside a huge Syabas water tank, Authentic Nabe offered one of a kind dining experience where the diners can grill the food on the charcoal stove (which I don’t really fancy about). But why this place was chose, you may ask. Because my dearest sister promised to do all the grilling and I can just sit back and enjoy the food, wakaka!
It’s just an open space with zinc roof and some wooden tables (with designated places to put the charcoal stove) and plastic chairs, so you know what to expect in terms of comfort level. Especially when grilling on the table is involved, be prepared for some heat and sweaty moment when dining here, although there were several standing fans.
Authentic Nabe certainly a popular dining place, evidently seen from the waiting crowd while we were busy tucking in.
Sauces and condiments – lime wedges, signature sauce made from assorted veggies, chili powder, pepper salt and soy sauce.
The list of meat available ~ pork belly (RM11), pork neck (RM9), pork shoulder (RM11), pork tongue (RM8), pork liver (RM7), pork heart (RM6), beef steak (RM21), beef striploin (RM12), ribeye (RM12), lamb shoulder (RM16), lamb loin (RM12). Seafood such as prawns, squids, mussels and scallops, were priced from RM17-21 and vegetables were priced at RM6 & RM8.
The portion of the meat definitely smaller than what we would have expected. My sis also commented that the portion that she recently had at Taman Desa Japanese BBQ with similar concept was a lot bigger.
Other than the BBQ, there was a small selection of yakitori as well.
One Pot Nabe (RM19.00/pax, minimum 2 pax)
For the price charged, we thought that the portion should be slightly larger and more varieties.
Udon (RM5)
Served with an raw egg underneath and fiery chili sauce.
♥Verdict: Actually we went for second round at mamak shop after this dinner because we weren’t feeling full enough and our appetite was not satiated. But, looking at the crowd that thronged this place, there’s must be some attractive points, I assume. Well, drop by if you have chance and let me know what’s your verdict!

Alamak, after makan there have to eat some more at mamak. Price wise with smallish portions, I would not be too keen. Besides I very malas to cook my own food at the restaurant LOL!
PH, IKR! I cook everyday and eat out still need to cook, no way!
I’m with you when it comes to grilling food…and that’s because I can’t stand the intense heat the charcoal emits though I have to say I do enjoy grilled food very much…love the smoky flavour it imparts. Grilling that’s not done in an airconditioned environment is even more difficult to withstand….worst still would be under a zinc roof….lol.
Kris, even in an air-conditioned restaurant (like Korean restaurant), I also cannot! I just want to enjoy food when I choose to dine out.
I prefer to eat BBQ at Korean Restaurants because the bosses never allow customers to work like grilling. Their trained staff would pamper us.
TM, I visited a Korean restaurant which we need to grill the food ourselves. ~>_<~ http://www.choiyen.com/sae-ma-eul-bbq-bandar-menjalara-kepong/
Haighhh when willl SOP be eased again..
