Breakfast at Kampung Koh, Sitiawan
The first stop of our Ayer Tawar-Sitiwan trip was this no-signboard breakfast stall which is located right opposite Petronas petrol station at Kampung Koh.
Operating in a Kampung (village) house, this little stall offers local Foochow breakfast such as Kampua Mee, Dan Yan, Rou Yan, Loh Mee and Laksa. The al-fresco dining and the surrounding environment evoked nostalgia for my childhood days at my Kampung.
Kampua Mee
I always enjoy the delightful springy texture of the Kampua Mee. The dry noodle version here was cooked to a perfection and sufficiently tossed with aromatic soy sauce concoction that gave the maximum satisfaction on the bite as well as flavour.
Foochow Dan Yan
Foochow Dan Yan Noodles 蛋燕 is an unique Foochow egg noodles which is made from egg and tapioca flour. It has a chewy texture and can be served with soup, stir fried or tossed in soy sauce mixture.
We had the Dan Yan served in a savoury minced meat soup with fragrant fried shallot oil. The soft, smooth and chewy texture of the Dan Yan was sublime.
LohLak = Loh Mee + Laksa
You might balk upon knowing the combination of broth which indeed had an unique piquant flavour. The odd combo of savoury, sourish and sweetness that lingering in your mouth turned out to be a pleasurable taste after a few spoons. There was jar Foochow signature vinegar garlic on table if one want for extra oomp for your noodles.
Fried Tau Ki
The fried fish sticks were addictively crunchy, good on its own as snack or crush into the noodle as condiment. We packed some back as well. ^__^
Verdict: Simple yet satisfying local Foochow breakfast.

Delicious carb-fest there. I am not familiar with Foochow cuisine, so I learnt something here.
PH, I can’t resist noodles like these. 😛
I had a trip to Sitiawan some years back too. Your kampua mee does look good…and I’ve not encountered a combo of loh-lak before.
Kris, try the LohLak if you travel to Sitiawan again.
