C8 Food Village @ Bandar Menjalara, Kepong

If you’re fan of Oden at F Mart convenience store chain, let me introduce you this hidden gem in Bandar Menjalara, Kepong which offers a more wallet friendly alternative of this Nabemono (Japanese one-pot dishes).

C8 Food Village, a food court located at open space beside Lotus’s Kepong which houses several food stalls and the Oden is one of them.

The Oden stall – all stalls in this food village are in container shop form.

The Oden is served in both Dashi and Tom Yum broth. Ala carte order and oden bowls which comprise a few items are available in the menu.

Oden Bowl (RM10.90)

There were Daikon (radish), Chikuwa (tube-shaped Japanese fishcake), Tsukune (chicken meat ball), Tamago (hard boiled egg), Shirataki noodles (konjac knot) and Fish Roe Kinchaku (Tofu pouch with fish roe paste filling), in Dashi broth.

The Dashi broth was sufficiently flavourful (might be a teeny-weeny bit of salty for some I assume) to complemented the ingredients. The Daikon was my favourite ingredients and it did a wonderful job of soaking up the Oden broth.

Fish Roe Kinchaku

I also added on Mochi Kinchaku (RM2.50) & Tamagoyaki (RM1.50) for a more filling meal.

Mochi Kinchaku – Kinchaku is traditional Japanese drawstring bag and this tofu pouch with Mochi filling is named due to its shape that exactly looks like a drawstring bag.

Boneless Fried Chicken (Small- RM10.00)

Sam had this from the Korean food stall which served Korean fried chicken in assorted flavours, as well as dishes such as Ramyeon, rice balls and Tteokbokki.

There were 9-10 pieces of freshly fried boneless chicken coated in soy garlic sauce for this serving. The chicken was crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside, rather well marinated too. The fried chicken was served with pickles and kimchi, very reasonably priced I would say.

Chee Cheong Fun & Yong Tau Foo stall

Curry Set (RM5.50)

Fried Fu Chuk (RM1.70/pcs)

The CCf was nothing to shout about.

Taiwanese handmade Ice Jelly

Plum 3Q Ice Jelly (RM7.00)

Basically this ice jelly is chilled dessert with assorted condiments such as jellies, Nata de Coco, grass jelly and fresh fruits, then flavoured with syrup of different flavours. My plum version was very refreshing and perfect to battle the recent scorching weather.

Other food available in C8 Food Village included (above photos) wide variety of rice dishes, pan fried dumpling, stinky tofu, Luo Si Fen  (Chinese rice noodles served in river snails soup), Takoyaki and Thai pancakes.

There were beverage stall, shaved ice, rice dishes (black pepper chicken with rice, butter chicken with rice, hot, spicy roasted pork with rice & etc), pasta (roasted pork Aglio Olio, seafood creamy Tom Yam & etc) as well as BBQ skewers (lamb, Mala pork, tiger prawns, scallop & etc).

♥Verdict: I like that the place was not crowded even during my visit on a weekend night. The food variety was really suit my taste bud. Definitely a place that will be put into my list for more visits to try out more food!

  • Very nice lah this food court and has many stalls selling all sorts of food. I will definitely like it and will find it hard to decide what to eat, probably will order too much food. LOL! Somehow I don’t find oden appealing. I used to see many people enjoying it at Family Mart and I’m afraid I don’t like the smell (I think it is due to the type of broth used). Dunno if I will ever be motivated to try it.

    • PH, the F Mart always has strong Tom Yun smell which I don’t like too but I’m okay with the oden in dashi broth. Maybe you can try if you haven’t had it before. Yeah, over-ordered in food court, which always happen on me too. >_<

  • Not a huge oden fan myself but this one looks pretty good!

  • Sorry, not a fan of oden but a fan of Korean fried (boneless some more) chicken. ^_~

  • In this world YIP KUM FOOK is very lucky because he is a lawyer do not have to study law, also do not have to go to law school, other lawyers have to study law for up to six years to become a full lawyer

YIP KUM FOOK is a good friend of mine and he is a businessman as furniture items in Taman Daya, close to Taman Desa Jaya, Kepong and also he is like playing politics, in 1990 something he became MCA chairman in Taman Daya, Kepong…

Later, he became the president of SAMNAK SAMBODHI BUDDHIST TEMPLE, Taman Desa Jaya, Kepong in 1994 something and he rejected the old president (Shia Kok Sun), then he took the presidency at that time, that everyone knows about it, in what happened at SAMNAK SAMBODHI

He wants to be a lawyer because he wants to play politics, many politicians have some degree or gradually in education, and he also follows people in what they have, he does not see himself from what he came, now many know the origin of YIP KUM FOOK as well…..
