Short getaway to the South ~ Pulai Desaru Beach Resort & Spa
During our stay at Pulai Springs Resort, we were treated a wonderful dinner at their award-winning Chinese restaurant ~ Ching Palace 满殿中菜馆.
The facade with setting resembled ancient Chinese house.
The waiting area was tastefully decorated with antique furniture and ornaments.
Some of the decorations and carving which play heavily on the old Chinese charm feeling.
Private rooms also available to cater to all functions.
The awards were proudly displayed on one of the wall in the restaurant.
Signature Szechuan Hot and Sour Pot (四川酸辣豆腐汤)
Our first dish of Szechuan hot and sour soup arrived pipping hot on our table. Slightly thick texture brimming with julienned beancurd, wood ear fungus, shiitake mushrooms, bamboo shoots and egg drops. The broth had just the right balance of spicy and sour which really stimulated our palate.
Signature Szechuan Camphor And Tea Smoked Duck (四川樟茶鸭配馒头)
When the next dish served on my table, I glee with joy as that was my favourite duck dish! The duck was nicely arranged on the plate and surrounded with petite fried mantou. The duck meat was tender with subtle smoky taste but I hardly taste any tea flavor in it.
Definitely my first time have this duck “mantao sandwich” 😛
Stir Fried Dried Chilies Prawns with Crispy Dough Stick & Cashew Nuts (宫保虾球)
It’s our usual Kung Po prawn with a twist by adding in Chinese cruller or you tiao (in Mandarin) which can absorb the spicy and flavorful sauce.
Indonesian-Styled Curry Fish (印尼咖喱鱼)
Deep fried fish drench in Indonesian-style curry and topped with assorted vegetables like brinjals, long beans, tomatoes and beancurd puffs. The curry was light in flavor but the creaminess was mistakable~
Hainan-Styled Stewed Mutton Soup
This soupy dish looked innocuous but managed to wow everyone that night with its audacity in flavors. The local grass-fed mutton was in good biting texture with slightly gamey taste (it was mutton after all) and the murky soup was where the wow factor came from; peppery with exceptionally strong and robust taste.
Long Beans with Minced Chicken (肉碎炒长豆)
While the above dishes were outstanding this vegetable dish taste merely ordinary for me.
Chilled Sago with Ice Cream
The dessert of chilled sago with giant scoop of Vanilla ice cream marked a perfect ending to a scrumptious dinner.
Thanks Pulai Group for hosting us for our3D2N stay and we enjoyed very much on their warm hospitality.

The duck looks good, usually it’s hard to taste the tea in food one, unless they use a super strong tea.
