Ee Chinese Cuisine Chinese New Year Menu 2012

Chinese New Year is a-coming! To usher in the year of Dragon, Ee Chinese Cuisine, Eastin Hotel culinary team has specially prepared a selection of auspicious dishes to commemorate the occasion.

Classic elegant setting tastefully decorated with some Chinese influence ornaments.

There are a few private rooms to cater to all functions.

Light bites were served before our dinner started.

Toss your way into the Lunar New Year for a prosperous year ahead with Ee Chinese Cuisine’s special selection of Yee Sang that includes abalone, Japanese scallop, white tuna, salmon and not forgetting the vegetarian, fresh seaweed & pear with mixed vegetables salad, traditional condiments and plum dressing.

As with most Chinese New Year dinners, it is customary to start off with the  ‘Prosperous Salmon Yee Sang’.

The crackers & the sauces.

Fresh sliced salmon.

The waitress preparing the Yee Sang for us.

On your mark, get set, TOSS! All of us tossed and tossed while hollering the new year’s wishes – “Win Lottery!”, “Health!”, “Wealth” and so on~ A variety of shredded vegetables and crackers gave this combination a light crunch and definitely a lively colour.

Starting at RM68++ for half portion of the vegetarian Yee Sang to RM268++ for a whole portion of sliced Abalone Yee Sang.

Double-boiled Shark’s Bone with Superior Shark’s Fin and Fish Maw

I pass on this soup again but I can see there was a huge piece of shark’s fin and fish maw hidden beneath the thick broth. According to the manager, long hours of boiling shark’s bone rendering the thick and almost gelatinous soup.

Add in some bean sprouts for extra crunchy twist.

Stir Fried Prawns with Seasonal Greens and Scallop Rolls

The visually stunning presentation manage to attract the eyes even before it was savored! Featured two varieties in the form of Stir Fried Prawns with Asparagus & Lily Bulb and Scallop Paste Wrapped with Deep Fried Thin Noodle.

Sitting gorgeously in a deep fried noodle basket, the crunchy asparagus and lily bulb + extremely bouncy prawns make every bite a treasure!

Nothing less than outstanding – from the fresh springy scallop paste, to the crispy fried thin noodle with dollop of mayonnaise and fish roes.

My plate of goodness!

Steamed ‘Qing Yuan’ Village Chicken

The village chicken had a fairly firm texture and without the scary bits of fats underneath, perhaps was the result of regularly exercise?

The ginger dipping lent a punchy kick to the poultry.

Steamed Century Garoupa Traditional Style

Fresh fish is best steamed for its excellent original taste. The Century Garoupa aka Long Dan has quite a thick layer of skin and I enjoyed it immensely as that was what an ageing woman like me needed – the collagen!

Braised Dried Seafood Bag with Brocolli

Blanched broccoli surrounded by circle of cute “money bag” consisted of braised seafood.

Wonder what were inside the “money bag”? Sea cucumber, dried oyster & sea moss braised with thick & savory gravy topped with fried scallop. Flavor was light and showcased the different textures and tastes of the ingredients.

Stewed Fragrant Rice with Preserved Meats

Claypot of fragrant rice infused with soy sauce and prettied up with lots of spring unions

Waxed pork, waxed sausage, waxed liver sausage & waxed duck.

Sauce to be poured onto the rice.

Also known as “Lap Mei Fan”, another specialty dish available during Chinese New Year. An assortment of waxed meats were placed on top of a claypot of rice, letting the savoury and fragrant juices from the meat to infuse within. Only a minor gripe here as the rice was a tad too hard to my liking but my friend love the texture, matter of preference I would say =.=”

Sesame Balls

Sweetened Read Bean Soup

To end the splendid meal on a sweet finish, we had the Sesame Balls and Sweetened Read Bean Soup. Glutinous balls covered fully with sesame seeds with scrumptious peanut paste filling and crush peanut for that extra crunch oomph!

What a wonderful night as we truly enjoyed the magnificent  dinner & the warm hospitality from the hotel officers. So do head out to Ee and have the pleasure in tossing to ensure good health, wealth and happiness throughout the year while enjoying the sumptuous culinary feast prepared for this special occasion!
