Genting SkyWorlds Theme Park @ Genting Highlands

After our brunch at Dafu Congee, hubby suggested that we should check out the outdoor theme park and Sam saw eye to eye with her dad, so I had to follow the majority. =_=”

High in the hills in the Genting Highlands, Genting SkyWorlds Theme Park was supposed to be a 20th Century Fox World Malaysia theme park, but the deal fell partway through.

However, today this outdoor theme park is well developed with 26 rides and attractions that are designed after nine movie and adventure-inspired ‘worlds’, or zones, namely Andromeda Base, Central Park, Eagle Mountain, Epic, Ice Age, Liberty Lane, Rio, Robots Rivet Town and Studio Plaza.

Check out HERE for the ticket price but I also noticed (at the ticketing counters) that there’s special rate for Pahang citizens.  Opening hours are 11am to 6pm daily. Visitors can download their Genting SkyWorlds mobile app which allow you to purchase your tickets, view attraction wait times, browse the park guide, and even make VQ (Virtual Queue) reservations for attractions.

Your journey will begin at Studio Plaza, an art-deco prelude lined with cafes and shops, which paves the way into the themed worlds.

Andromeda Base

We started our adventure at this thrilling galactic escapade. Sam and hubby took the action packed Alpha Fighter Pilots (see the collage photo above).

Rio, themed the Santa Teresa in Rio de Janeiro featuring a replica town of Brazil parading a splash of vibrant and cheerful colour. There’s a mixture of rides, food and beverage outlets and retail shops in each ‘world’.

Rio Carnaval Chaos!, my first ride which is a spinning ride that immediately KO (knock out) me. ๑﹏๑

Ice Age, a pre-historic adventure with attractions inspired by the Ice Age movie.

We took the Ice Age: Expedition Thin Ice ride which is a family-friendly 3D interactive ride.

Liberty Lane, a zone inspired by the streets of San Francisco and featuring only one 3D ride – Invasion of the Planet of the Apes, which I found quite exciting.

Our pod – The ride uses a trackless ride system with simulator effects, wrap-around 3D media scenes, scenic design and animatronics.

Our late lunch of hotdog with various toppings, YUM!

Epic, this land is themed around the movie, Epic. Imagine shrinking down to the size of an ant and strolls around those beautiful landscapes featuring enormous flora and fauna and featuring two family friendly rides – Epic Voyage to Moonhaven and Epic Hummingbird Flyers.

Epic Voyage to Moonhaven, the ride that got us all wet. (-‸ლ)

This indoor boat ride showcases a tour around Moonhaven on Mub and Grub

Bring your own raincoat if you’re planning a visit to Genting SkyWorlds Theme Park as the weather is quite unpredictable here on the highland. Or you may purchase the raincoat from the souvenir shops (with a steep price) in the theme park.  T_T

Central Park – Described as a buzzing town square that offers shopping, dining, and live entertainment but there wasn’t much happening here when we visited. We had two rides here – Night at the Museum: Midnight Mayhem and ESD Global Defender.

Night at the Museum: Midnight Mayhem, an interactive 3D ride with shooting games  where you and your partner compete against each other to see who can gain a higher score in stopping the museum exhibits that came to life and creating havoc in the Natural History Museum.

While we were queuing, the space was filled with interesting exhibits that appeared in the Night at the Museum movie!

A funny and “proper” photo of yours truly at the Museum Store. (^○^)

ESD Global Defender – another stomach-churning spinning ride that Sam and hubby took. (хдх).

Independence Day: Defiance, a 3D interactive ride based on the movie Independence Day that I mush anticipated as my friend told me this is his favourite ride in this theme park. But unfortunately it was closed for maintenance on that day. T_T

How about win a pink banana plush toy (a really big one) at one of the gaming booths in Asteroid Arcade? LOL

Eagle Mountain – nothing much to explore and the only ride in this world – Mad Ramp Peak – Full Throttle Racing is still under construction. 囧

I only found out that we totally missed world of Robots Rivet Town, why ar? ⊙.☉

Verdict: Each world had its unique charm, offering a variety of rides to cater to different age groups, and engaging live shows that added a vibrant pulse to the park. The culinary scene was also impressive, with an array of food options, from quick bites to full meals, available across the park.

Although the Genting SkyWorlds mobile app proved to be an effective tool for navigating through the park and reserving rides (cut queues!! – lines were long for popular ones), we were disappointed to find that not all attractions were operational during my visit. This, combined with the short opening hours (the park only opens at 11am and closed 6pm), made me question the value of the entrance fee, particularly for families planning a full day of fun. Despite the park’s wonderful theming and variety of offerings, it’s essential for future visitors to consider these limitations. While Genting SkyWorlds holds promise as a captivating destination, a few adjustments such as extended operational hours and ensuring all attractions are open could significantly enhance our experience.

Would I revisit? Short answer no but changes to the above might change my mind.
