Granny’s Mansion 粥公面婆 @ SS2, P.J
It’s been more than 2 decades since I had stepped my foot in SS2, Petaling Jaya. Hubby and I used to frequent the night market as well as eateries in this area but the visits have been reduced since the the growth of F&B choices in my vicinity and completely stop since MCO until now.
We have been trying some new eateries at my area (which is Kepong, in case you didn’t know. :P) recently and I think it’s time to explore “new places” hence my intention brought me to Granny’s Mansion located at SS2, P.J (same row with Sea Park Police Station).
Air conditioner was working at full blast, the restaurant has a clean and pleasant setting. Vintage tiles flooring and mural of their history liven up the overall ambience. The restaurant was fully occupied on that weekend afternoon and there was a constant stream of customers and food delivery pick ups throughout the afternoon.
As their Chinese name implies 粥公面婆 (means porridge grandpa & noodle granny), porridge and noodle dishes took center stage in their menu. There are selections of pork porridge with either pork or offal, fish porridge (fillet, fish head or fried fish meat) and chicken porridge. While the choices of noodles also categorized into pork, fish and chicken noodles. There are six options for noodle types (meehoon, kuey teow, yellow noodles, Lou Shu Fun, Yee Mee and Dong Guan meehoon) and four types of soup base (spicy and sour, clear soup, evaporated milk soup and rice wine soup), and of course dry noodles.
Teh (cold – RM5.90) & Carrot Milk (RM5.90)
Deep Fried Intestine Porridge (RM11.90)
Topped with generous amount of fried intestine and crunchy You Tiao (Chinese crullers), the porridge was velvety smooth and sufficiently seasoned. Though the intestine was slightly over-fried which a mild bitterness was detected, they were super crunchy and well prepared without any unpleasant or rancid taste.
Fish Fillet Porridge (RM13.90)
The fish fillet were soft and tender.
Deep Fried Meat Paste Noodles (RM13.90 + RM1.00 for Dong Guan meehoon)
Oh boy, I love their signature spicy and sour soup base studded with sliced tomatoes and preserved vegetable – pickled mustard greens (ham choy). The broth had an addictively delicious sour tang brought about by the preserved vegetable and tomatoes. The spiciness was tolerable and delivered an enjoyable spicy sensation to the taste bud.
The fried meat paste was well marinated and tender.
Verdict: A more than decent place for some comfort food with very reasonable price tag. It’s no brainer that we wouldn’t say no for more visits.

The spicy/sour soup base sounds very appetising…but haiz, open so late. The deep fried meat paste is served in the soup…and not separately? By the way, what is dong guan meehoon? P/S: I also thought the deep fried intestines were overfried when I saw the photo…by never mind lah, as long as it’s super crispy. ^_~
Kris, go for brunch! I thought the meat was supposed to be served separately as shown in the menu, but mana tau……. >_<. Dong Guan Meehoon has a more "chewy" and "doink doink" springy texture if compared with the normal one.
