Hai Yew Heng @ Tanjong Sepat
We arrived earlier than check in time to our resort, so we took a short stroll to nearby Tanjong Sepat Village for the famous Hai Yew Heng Hainanese buns.
The shop is not difficult to locate, just look for a “modern” looking shop amongst the kampung style wooden house in the village with long queue outside. Customers willing to queue under the scorching sun for the buns which create so much hype. There are also tour buses stop by here during weekends and public holidays for their buns.
About Hai Yew Heng
Hai Yew Heng is established more than 40 years in Tanjung Sepat and famous for its traditional home made Hainanese buns. The quality of buns are persistently maintained with the enthusiasm of this traditional recipe by the owner. Amongst the the three original fillings and the three newly-developed fillings, the succulent pork buns and Mui Choy bun are the best selling products.
Lady workers busy making the bun right in the shop.
Photos and newspaper reports displayed on the wall.
Freshly from steamer!
Fluffy looking buns, very alluring indeed!
Kind reminder: A limitation is imposed on quantity of purchase for each customer, please come with more peoples if you planning to “wholesale” the buns back. LOL
Beware of copycat!
Customers can either take away the buns or have it at kopitiam opposite Hai Yew Heng with some local coffee. There are a few stalls selling fried stuff and steamed fish balls too in front of that kopitiam.
The fried fritters and crab were just mediocre but the steamed fish balls were great, bouncy without any fishy smell, worth a try!
Mui Choy Bao (RM 2.00)
One of their signature, filled with preserved Chinese mustard and pork. The bun itself was light and slightly chewy but a bit too thick while the filling was just average for me, nothing too outstanding. Perhaps the high expectation?
Sang Yoke Bao (RM 2.20)
Another best selling bun with filling of savory pork chunks and quarter of hard boiled egg. The pork was well-flavored with balance ratio of fat and lean meat.
Vegetable Bao (RM 1.40)
With shredded jicama filling, crunchy and light flavored.
Red Bean Bao (RM 1.40)
Peanut Bao (RM 1.40)
I like the Lor Mai Gai, brilliantly seasoned, well flavored and the glutinous rice was soft albeit a bit oily 😛
Verdict: Although the buns is slightly overrated but still worth to try since the mui choy bao is rarely found at Klang Valley.

Okay, i’m so gonna check this place out if i’m in the vicinity, love those baos. There’s quite a good bao seller at Balik Pulau too but quite far for me to travel there to get some baos 🙁
If the food is good enough, why not?
想念它的梅菜包~
你觉得好吃?我觉得”麻麻地”罢了 😛
oh, i’ve heard about this shop a lot.. those fritters, those buns and also the loh mai kai all looked yummy yummy!!
Haha, tempting to try? Not far from KL, go ahead!
Been there before. Preferred the Mr Black Pau . 🙂
I saw Mr. Black Pao’s signboard by roadside but didn’t go in, maybe next time 🙂
me super love their mui choi and peanut bao… if I know u go, I ask u to tapau for me… hehehe
Next time but I think the probability u revisit this place is higher, haha!
有时候很担心去吃出名的东西,因为期望放高了就会容易失落><
小小失落,但还是不错吃啦 😛
i think it’s on a foodie show lately! the mui choi bao is really unique!! wanted to try too, but i heard quite far from KL!
Not very far lah my dear, less than 1 hour 🙂
I like the shop setting, it’s very Taiwanese feel.
u mean the bao shop? Not really can related it to Taiwanese feel, hehe LOL
Just went to Tg Sepat last weekend and decided to try this famous pau. I am actually not a fan of pau and even when I go for dim sum, I do not order pau. But I must say, this Hai Yew Heng pau (I ate the “mui choy” pau) is really excellent. I would give it 5 stars!!!
