That day was our last day in Penang, so we went all out to eat as much as we can *kiasu and Kheng Pin Cafe was our first stop for breakfast.

Kheng Pin Cafe located at the junction of Jalan Penang and Jalan Sri Bahari is known for this Loh Bak stall manned by an old uncle.

Kheng Pin Cafe with a very typical Kopitiam setting houses several food stalls of the famous Loh Bak, Char Koay Teow, Hokkien Mee (Prawn Mee), Wonton Mee and porridge.

Loh Bak or Ngoh Hiang is a type of Hokkien delicacy which is made with minced meat seasoned with five spice powder, then rolled inside a bean curd skin and deep-fried.  The Loh Bak here is not only referring to the meat roll but a composition of various fried stuff such as fish cake, tofu, prawn fritters, meat balls, sausages and etc.

There were 3 choices of portion for one pax (RM6), two pax (RM8) or three pax (RM10).

One pax portion (RM6.00)

The platter consisted of Loh Bak, fried fish cake, fried tofu, prawn fritters, meat ball and sliced cucumber served along with chili sauce and thick brown sauce resembled Loh Mee gravy.

The main star here definitely the fried meat roll. Freshly fried and served pipping hot, the meat roll yielded a pleasant crispy bean curd skin, encased with meat filling (mixture of minced meat + pork slivers) that was well flavoured with five spice powder. Other ingredients were just mediocre.

We also had Hokkien Mee and Char Koay Teow from these stalls.

Hokkien Mee (RM5.00)

A satisfying bowl of Prawn Mee with rich prawn-y broth and all the necessary condiments.

Duck Egg Char Koay Teow (RM8.00)

Came with two rather big prawns and fried with the more “premium” duck egg, this plate of Char Koay Teow certainly another noteworthy order in Kheng Pin.

The rice noodles was full of “wok hei”, well-seared and robustly flavoured with soy sauce chili paste and duck egg.

Wonton Mee (RM5.00)

For Sam who didn’t fancy the above food that we ordered. ╮(╯_╰)╭

♥Verdict: Definitely a place that worthy to put into your Penang food hunting list!
