Kura Japanese Restaurant @ One World Hotel

It’s Sam’s birthday dinner and she opted for her favourite Japanese food. After short discussion with hubby, we decided to try out Kura Japanese Restaurant which is nestled in One World Hotel, Petaling Jaya.

Located on ground floor of the hotel, the restaurant has an elegant golden aura from its decor and lighting. The dining area is separated into several sections with different seating like banquet seat seats, counter seats as well as private rooms for a more serene dining experience. I do recommend that call ahead to reserve a table may be a wise choice, especially on weekends as the restaurant has two sessions for dinner – 6.30pm to 7.30pm or 7.45pm to onwards.

The extensive menu is sufficiently filled with enough choices to keep most diners of all ages happy. There are a long list of Teishoku (set dinner), the price ranges from RM33 to RM130 which are a complete meal includes soup, appetizer, staple (rice or noodles), main and fruit. The full-fledged menu offers wide selection of Japanese food consists of Sashimi (from RM29 to RM450), salads & appertizers (from RM9 to RM29), Mushimono & Shirumono (from RM5 to RM27), Nabemono (from RM15 to RM89), Agemono (from RM13 to RM39), Kushiyaki (from RM8 to RM38), Yakimono (from RM12 to RM75), Temaki (from RM9 to RM16), assorted Sushi (from RM6 to RM38), noodles dishes (from RM17 to RM33), such as Cha Soba, Hiyashi Somen with Sakura Shrimp, Udon/Soba with Beef, Cold Udon/Soba with Tempura, rice dishes or Don (from RM10 to RM59), such as Gyudon, Chicken Katsujyu, Bara Chirashi Don, Tendon, Unagi Hitsumabushi, Seafood Fried Rice, Ochazuke, Hot Stone Rice with Spicy Soup.

There are also decent choices of desserts (from RM7 to RM15) such like Sherbet, Daifuku, Ice Cream, Hokkaido Red Bean Soup and Japanese Cheese Cake. More premium options like Tokushima Halal Wagyu and premium courses – Sushi Course (RM200/pax), Teppanyaki Course (RM150-250/pax) and Wagyu Shabu Shabu Course (RM250/pax) are being covered in the menu as well.

House Sake (RM39.00)

Yakiniku Zen (RM42.00)

The set meal comprised of the main, pickles, miso soup, salad, Chawanmushi and fruits which were rather standard in terms of flavour.

The grilled thin Angus Beef slices and onion were coated in sweet savoury sauce, which went really well with the rice.

Sake Oyako Don Zen (RM39.00)

Sam, the Salmon lover opted for this set which comes with fresh Salmon Sashimi and Salmon roe atop of Sushi rice. A set that certainly can satisfy any Salmon lover!

Nabeyaki Udon to California Maki Zen (RM49.00)

A very filling set which included claypot udon and California Roll. There were assorted of vegetables, mushrooms, a couple of Tempura (included Shrimp Tempura), Aaburaage (deep-fried tofu), egg and Udon in the hotpot. The broth was light tasting with a delightful sweet savoury note.

Inajyu Zen (Big – 150g – RM59.00)

I got this roasted eel on rice for mom and she enjoyed immensely the umami rich Unagi Kabayaki which conveyed a pleasant nuances of smokiness.

Mom and I enjoyed the hot Sake. (♥ω♥*)

Verdict: Surprisingly for a Japanese restaurant in hotel, the food isn’t charged with “premium price” that I would have expected. Food wise, we had no complaint on the food that we tried that evening

  • If I am not wrong, Kura is now under the same management as Rakuzen. Many years ago, when they first opened I went there with my brother and it was very classy with classy price LOL! Then subsequently when I learnt about the new management, I decided not to revisit since there is a Rakuzen near me and the standard is just so so.

    • PH, maybe my standard to food isn’t as high as you, the food we had that day was quite okay, although not really outstanding.
Yeah, you’re right, Kura is now under same management with Rakuzen.

  • That was my first thought…why choose a Japanese restaurant in a hotel as prices will usually be steeper! But glad to find out that it wasn’t. I would gladly pay RM59 for that amount of eel…and it looked like it was roasted to perfection. So well charred…yums! 😉
