Local Area Burger @ TTDI, K.L

Honestly, I’m not a burger fan but I was oddly attracted by a Instagram story about this smash burger a couple of weeks ago. I had been pestered hubby to try out this place and finally we made it on last Saturday.

Local Area Burger (LAB) is located right in front of Maybank, TTDI branch, it’s a roadside stall offers America style smash burger. Manned by a few Malay young chaps, the burger stall is operated quite systematically with the ordering process was swift and pleasant. We were given a wireless pager after payment was made and collect our food when it’s ready.

Smashing the beef patties, caramelized onion and American cheese. This charring is what helps to create those incredibly complex and savoury flavours.

What is a smash burger? A smash burger is a burger that is made by smashing the ground beef onto the grill or griddle with a spatula. Smashing the burger results in a sear on the outside of the meat, which locks in all of the juices and flavor. Source

The curbside dining area equipped with simple tables and stools.

While waiting for the burger to be cooked, I strolled around the area and took these photos to show you guys what’s available here, just in case you’re interested to pay a visit. (^.^)/

A beverage truck that offers all sort of cold drinks.

Lycheto (Large – RM17.00)

A refreshing mint and Lychee Frappé.

Malay style Char Koay Teow, cooked with charcoal fire which hubby and I were aiming to try on our next visit.

Sundae and another drink truck.

LAB menu keeps it fuss-free with just four options: Smash Single (RM9.20), Smash Single with Onions (RM11.50), Smash Double (RM13.20), and Smash Double with Onions (RM15.50).

Smash Double with Onions (RM15.50)

If you like your burger dripping sloppy, drenched in sauce, this LAB smash burger might not your cup of tea. Sandwiched in between the soft burger buns, it’s an ensemble of smashed ground Australian beef patty, caramelized onion, melted cheese, fresh lettuce and pickles. The cooked-to-order thinly pressed patties with juicy meat was perfectly encased in a brown crust. Every bite bursts with flavour – smokey beefy flavour, sweetness of the caramelized onion, savouriness of the luscious melted cheese and lastly the pickles that adds a refreshing touch.

Verdict: It’s a burger that tick all the boxes for me in terms of flavours (I don’t like saucy burger) and price (it’s very wallet friendly). Revisit? Why not? (☆▽☆)

  • I like the look of the very well charred crust. I also don’t like overly saucy burgers but since I omit the cheese (which binds the burger with the meat), it still needs a bit of sauce to bind it all together, otherwise it may be too dry. P/S: Haha, so it’s your hubby that pesters you to try a new place…which is good since that means he’s a fellow foodie and game to try something new. My husband is the opposite, I have to be the one to pester him to try new places, he just wants to eat the same (good) thing over and over again. >.<

  • Kris, it’s I pestered my hubby lah, because I’m the one who being attracted by the burger, haha! I didn’t see any sauces on their counter, so I think this is not the burger for you unless you willing to try it with the melted cheese. >_<

  • Somehow road side burgers taste better than those at fast food outlets. I heard so much about smash burgers and must try doing it at home. At least your hubby still can accept eating burgers. My partner totally cannot >.< There is another area at TTDI where there are lots of food trucks at night. It's somewhere at a car park when Jaya Jusco used to be a long, long, time ago.

    • PH, I think it’s not difficult to duplicate this at home. My hubby can accept new food, as long as it’s not something that he doesn’t eat (like innard). I’m not aware of the place that you mentioned, perhaps I can go explore a bit. 🙂

  • Love the look of those onion!

  • KY, I hope it can be more caramelized. 🙂
