Makan Time @ Kota Damansara
I was attracted by the photo of Cendol like above which was shared by a food Instagram account that I have been followed. The makan places that he shared are mostly under my radar (today’s restaurant is one of them) and I’m pretty excited to bookmark and try them out one by one. \ (^_^) /
Makan Time is not located in the busy commercial area of Dataran Sunway but in a industrial area at Jalan Teknologi. The restaurant was hidden behind these shrubs, but luckily we still can find it with it’s signboard at the entrance. =.=”
The indoor seating capacity wasn’t big and we had to wait for table during our visit on a Saturday. There’s a black and white mural on one side of the wall, old framed photos and paintings as well as some old school items sparingly decorated the dining area.
There were several tables at outdoor as well, surrounded by greenery.
The menu was rather straight forward with items can be categorized into toasts, noodles and rice. Toasts were priced from RM5-RM8, came with options such as Roti Kahwin with Kaya Butter, Roti Telur Goyang, Egg, Chicken Ham and Cheese Sandwich and etc. Noodles dishes included Asam Laksa (RM12), Siamese Laksa (RM12), Beef Noodles (RM11-RM16) and Mac & Cheese (RM15). The rice dishes list comprised Chicken Chop with Rice, Nasi Kerabu, Sambal Chicken, Sambal Petai Prawns, Sweet and Sour Chicken, priced at RM11-RM22. Ala carte dishes such as Beef Tendon Soup, Pandan chicken, Egg with Minced Chicken Sauce and Sambal Petai Prawns (from RM5.50-Rm13) were available as add-on too.
This is the first time I’ve seen Nasi Lemak wrapped in Daun Simpoh.
There were some kuih for sale but not much leave during our visit for lunch.
Cham Ais (RM5.20)
Nasi Kerabu Kerutuk Ayam (RM18.00)
Completed with accompaniments of shredded cabbage, salted eggs, grated coconut, fish crackers, Sambal and Budu (fermented fish sauce), we opted to have Kerutuk Ayam to go with the blue butterfly pea rice.
The Kerutuk Ayam was quite tender with pronounced coconut milk and spices flavour. The whole combination showcased a satisfying flavours and textures from the various ingredients.
Mee Siam (RM6.00)
Topped with fried egg and served along with Sambal and fresh sliced cucumber, the Mee Siam was interestingly studded with chopped shredded Bunga Kantan.
Beef Kuey Teow Soup (RM15.00)
The broth was richly infused with herbs and spices and further perfumed with chopped coriander. Came with generous portion of tender beef chunks.
Cendol (RM6.00)
Oh La La, I love this Cendol! The slivers of Cendol in vibrant green colour was melt-in-your-mouth soft and the shaved ice was dressed in generous amount of Gula Melaka and decent of coconut milk, just the way I like!
Verdict: Food was just decent, to be honest, nothing too outstanding but I’ll definitely come back for the Cendol. Perhaps for takeaway only because the poor service from inattentive and uncaring servers was kind of marred my dining experience here. ⋋_⋌

I believe this is a halal place seeing the looks of the dishes offered….especially when it’s a Malay sambal. The cendol, on the other hand, looks too vibrantly green for me, like if it was made with colouring…but glad to hear that it made you go ooh-la-la! 😀 P/S: I don’t even know what is daun simpoh! :O
Kris, I also don’t know that Daun Simpoh until I Google it, hehe 😛 Actually I don’t mind that colouring provided that the whole combination is good. ^__*
Sorry, i dont think you really understand the definition of halal.
Anonymous, I don’t think I mention Halal in my post.
The green color of the cendol looks scary hah..hah… But glad that the cendol it delighted you. I am also wondering what is daun simpoh.
PH, like what i told Kris that I don’t mind that colouring provided that the whole combination is good. ^__*
I need those nasi lemak!
KY, you mean those wrapped in Daun Simpoh? Go and try, but I think those are not always available as it it not in the menu.
The cendol is fantastic!!! From malay mail article: “To get that rich vibrant jade green hue, Chong experimented with his own blend of pandan extract, daun suji and a drop of kan sui.
It’s not the same kan sui you get in egg noodles to get that springy texture but sodium silicate that helps the colour pop out. It’s also what is used by kuih makers.”
Makan time fan, this place is now more crowded than before after the article as well as the video of a popular Japanese Youtuber…… sob sob
Omg please improve your English writing.
Anonymous, thank you for your comment, I’ll look into it seriously.
