Miyatake Sanuki Udon @ Residensi Duta Kiara

Haha, this is another restaurant that I hesitate to introduce to you, although it was already very popular judging from the robust lunch crowd and the consistent stream of customer that thronged this place.

I was introduced to this restaurant by one of my reliable Instagram food bibles which I already tried out a few eateries recommended by him.

Previously operated in Isetan, 1 Utama, Miyatake Sanuki Udon is now reopened at Residensi Duta Kiara, a stone’s throw from Solaris Mont Kiara. The dining area is spacious and there are quite plenty of seating included some semi-private partitions and counter seats which can catch a glimpse of the chefs at work. Themed in a soothing neutral tone, nothing much on decorations, the overall ambience was delightfully accentuated by the soft yellow hue (but not friendly for photography =.=”).

As its name implies, Miyatake specializes in Sanuki Udon, a popular type of udon noodle in the Kagawa prefecture in Japan. It is characterized by its distinctive square shape and flat edges with chewy and smooth texture. The udon is freshly made daily by using the noodle making machine that placed near the entrance.

Ordering was done using tablet. Udon takes center stage in the menu, with options of dry, cold udon or served with different broths (clear, spicy, curry and creme ) and toppings (Kitsune, Asari, Tempura, sliced pork/beef). There are good selection of ala carte dishes in cluded Sashimi, chicken Karaage, assorted Tempura, salads, Oden, Inari Sushi, Edamame, pickles and etc to go with the noodles too. Not fancy of udon? Fret not, they offer rice dishes  too such as Ebi Tendon Rice Bowl, Oyako Don, Pork Curry Rice, just to name a few. Dessert options is limited to ice cream only. Udon are priced from RM16 to RM37.00 while the rice priced from RM25.00 to RM38.00. Beverages choices included soft drinks, teas, sodasbeers, Whisky Highball, Sakes, wines and Soju.

Bukkake Udon (RM23.00)

Being adventurous that day, I had the cold udon which came with a plate of Udon crowned with tempura flakes, bonito flakes, shredded seaweed, grated daikon, chopped spring onion, as well as a small jug of sauce.

The cold udon had a solid bite with a touch of springy texture. Cooked al dente, the texture is how I would normally love my udon to be. The room temperate dark broth was delicious, it was yet flavourful with a pleasant sweet notes. I was indeed happy slurping the udon.

Spicy Pork Miso Udon (RM28.00)

Hubby’s choice of udon was steeped in a spicy broth and topped with thin pork slices, a dollop of kimchi, chopped spring onion and some blanched spinach. The spiciness of the broth wasn’t enough to set your mouth on fire but delivered a tongue-tingling experience.

Nabeyaki Udon (RM26.00)

Sam had this simple one pot noodle soup with kamaboko fish cake, mushroom, chopped spring onion, egg and Tempura prawn. The light tasted Dashi broth allows one to enjoy the finest quality of udon itself.

Verdict: The impressive texture of the udon is deeply imprinted in my mind and Miyatake certainly a good place for authentic Sanuki Udon. It’s pure comfort food that I can eat them every day. (*ˊᗜˋノノ*

  • Noodle soup is always comfort food to me….but I’m not much of a fan of udon though. I guess that’s also why I seldom eat lor mee or lam mee (usually eaten with those fat Hokkien mee-type noodles, of course can change to another type of noodle lah but not quite the same). I can imagine having cold udon noodles and why you liked it. I once had cold soba noodles and was delighted by the texture and how refreshing it turned out to be too. ^_~

  • Don’t worry, I won’t rush there and join the crowd because I don’t like udon LOL! But if you enjoy it, then good for you that you have this place to go to.
