Private Kitchen @ SS2 Chow Yang, P.J

What’s better than having a pipping hot steamboat dinner on a cold and rainy evening? As a steamboat enthusiast, when I was treated to a steamboat dinner, I’m a happy girl 🙂

My destination for steamboat this time was at Private Kitchen which has relocated to SS2 Chow Yang. (same row with Kayu Nasi Kandar) Occupied upper floor of HK Kitchen which is under the same management , the setting of the restaurant is nothing much different with the previous, minimalistic, cozy but more spacious.

After the special winter melon steamboat, this time I’m savouring another unique Ding Ding Grilled Fish Pot which according to the chef was named after a place at Hong Kong, Ding Chow where the freshwater fish was caught. Available in 3 types of soup base, Fragrant Spicy Soup, Typhoon Shelter Spicy Garlic Soup and Fresh Tomatoes & Sweet Corn Soup served with a whole fish in a square pot.

Laden bountifully with tomatoes, corn, soybean sprouts, cucumber and leek, the soup base was richly laced with natural sweetness from the vegetables with distinctive and robust tomato flavor. The broth was affectionately comforting as each sip brings warmness to the tummy and soul. As for the fish, it was slightly pan fried till 70% cooked and need to be continued cooking in the soup until it was fully cooked.

Comprised of fresh chili, dried chili, chili oil, herbs, soybean sprouts, cucumber, leek and dried beancurd, the crimson red broth managed to deliver a punch & spicy sensation to my taste bud. Not the Sze Chuan style of numbing heat but a milder version which was pretty addictive I would say.
