Restaurant Extra Super Tanker @ Tropicana Gardens Mall

My only memory about Restaurant Extra Super Tanker was the Fried Hokkien Mee with generous sprinkles of crunchy pork lard that I had during one of my company dinner. However, I found out that the restaurant had modified the dish when I reordered it on my recent revisit for mom’s birthday celebration.

The Restaurant Extra Super Tanker is located on Level 3 in Tropicana Gardens Mall. The dining area in light greyish theme is fully carpeted, spacious and beautifully elegant, framed with comfy cushion chairs and draped tables.

Nuts (RM5.00)

Kimchi (RM5.00)

Pickles (RM5.00)

Century Egg (RM12.00)

These were the titbits that placed on table once we were seated. Although not cheap but I must admit that they were enjoyable.

Like most of the typical Chinese restaurants, the menu features an extensive list of dishes with wide variety of cooking styles for seafood, pork, poultry, vegetables, eggs, bean curd, noodles and desserts.

Roasted Duck in Sandwich Style (Small – RM88.00)

It’s roasted duck prepared in dual style – the roasted duck skin sandwich and portioned and served.

The staffs help us to ensemble the sandwiches which comprised soft steamed lotus leaf bun slathered with sweet sauce, filled with delicious roasted duck skin and crispy bean curd sheet (it was layered with some other ingredients which I forgot).

The portioned duck was rather mediocre. Texture wise, it was adequately tender but the flavour probably needs to be refined.

Steamed Dragon Grouper (RM268.00)

The captain resolutely commended this dish to us which I assumed this probably the last ready made portion that need to be cleared. (¬_¬)

There were deboned fish fillet rolled with minced meat, served on pool of soy sauce and blanched vegetables. The fish was rather tender and it was a nice change for ordering a steamed whole fish.

Spinach Bean Curd in Pumpkin Sauce (RM48.00)

Topped with bouncy prawns, the homemade spinach bean curd in pumpkin sauce was a bit shabby in terms of flavour. Both bean curd and gravy didn’t deliver much flavour.

Amaranth in Superior Soup (RM50.00)

A huge portion of vegetable dish to fulfil our Vitamin C quota. Pretty standard and tasted the way it should be.

Hokkien Style Japanese Noodles (Medium – RM45.00)

My eyes nearly popped out when I saw this in the menu. The thick yellow noodles aka Dai Lok Mien was replaced with the thin Japanese Ramen, which I don’t think it’s an ideal substitute. Give me back my usual Hokkien Mee please! Other than that, the flavour was on point and the ultimate limelight was belong to the generous amount of crunchy pork lards.

Verdict: The food certainly not on a stellar level and I thought the dishes that we had were lacking a little that hearty factor that can impress us. I have a few better and more affordable Chinese food options at my disposal.

  • I have been to this restaurant when they were located at Damansara Kim. At that time the food was pretty good.

  • That style of steamed fish is best for those who don’t want to pick out bones…lol. Yes, don’t mess with our traditional Hokkien mee…but, truth be told, they did state it in their menu by listing it as Hokkien style Japanese noodles, so they can’t be faulted lah. ^_~
