Rocket Coffeebar @ Bangkok

Expectation VS Reality

I had a crash course on the above when I visited the highly acclaimed Rocket Coffeecar at Bangkok. With almost non existence negative online reviews, I walked away disappointed with food I had.

We took Uber to Rocket Coffeebar nestled in a quiet quiet residential street at Sathorn after we checking in to Legacy Suites Bangkok. The small space looks delightful, adpoted a Scandinavian minimalism interior, plenty of warm wood tones and little details like cabinets filled with wine glasses and bottles, chrome coffee machines and dangling lighting. It had a laid-back, casual & chic vibe that I wouldn’t mind spending my whole afternoon at.

Rocket Coffeebar has garnered quite a name for serving up freshly baked goods and artisanal coffee. A must try is their signature cold brew coffee ~ Rocket Fuel.

Caffe Latte (95 Baht)

Coffee cannot fault – good strong coffee prepared well with clearly fresh roasts.

Rocket Water (45 Baht)

The menu is rather pleasing with a wide range of dishes, from healthy to comfort such as breakfast plate, salads, pasta, sandwiches, waffles and desserts.

Roasted Pumpkin Carrot Soup (165 Baht)

A hearty bowl of soup. Nice creamy texture, natural sweetness from the pumpkin and carrot as well as addition of roasted pumpkin seeds for that pleasant crunchy texture.

Rocket’s Benedict (210 Baht)

We imparted high expectation for this highly recommended dish but we were slapped with disappointment. The 63 degree poached eggs were nicely done with runny egg yolk however it was merely lukewarm when served to our table. Accompanied was generous portion of arugula salad and Chorizo. The cold Hollandaise sauce in particular is not pleasant as well and it could have some more lemon in it.

Triple Decker Roasted Pork (285 Baht)

Sandwiched between the dark danish rye bread, the amount of roast pork was somewhat miserly and less compatible to the price. This highly stack of sandwich is mostly filled with shredded lettuce, purple cabbage, onion & tomato dressed in mayonnaise.

Tuna & Egg Sandwich (90 Baht)
I really hoped for a bigger size for this open faced tuna & egg sandwich too >_<

Chocolate Cookie (75 Baht)

Note: All prices stated are based on my visit during Oct 2015.

Verdict:We left Rocket Coffeebar feeling very letdown, my experience definitely contrary to the excellent online reviews and I can’t seem to find a good enough reason to come back.
