Tea Restaurant Janda Baik 山中茶原 @ Janda Baik
If you are bored with what city’s cafes have to offer, you might want to consider making a visit to Tea Restaurant Janda Baik 山中茶原 situated at Janda Baik, Bentong. It is one of the restaurants under Purple Cane Tea Restaurant, a Chinese restaurant that served tea infused food which has a few branches at Klang Valley as well as Ipoh.
Approximately 45 minutes drive from KL, Tea Restaurant Janda Baik (right) is adjoining with Tanarimba Visitor Centre (left) which is an event hall especially popular as a garden wedding venue.
Set admist the jungle and the lush greenery surroundings, the restaurant is an open air timber architecture building complemented by a view of lawn, forest and a fish pond. We were there on a Sunday for tea break and the place was brimming with a robust crowd.
lawn and small pond of the surrounding jungle / pine forest.
Sam brought along her bubble blower but the weather was too hot to stay at outdoor >_<
The full-fledged menu offers their specially crafted tea infused food which includes salad, noodles, rice dishes, snacks, desserts and ice cream. For beverages choices, they have long list of teas, fruit juices and coffee. Oh ya, don’t expect the staff to come over to your table to do ordering, you need to queue up at the counter to order your food. To be honest, the highlight of the visit was not on the food, but environment.
Jasmine Roundies (RM5.00/pot)
Fried Chicken Wings with Bentong Ginger (RM16.00/4wings)
Arrived pipping hot, the chicken wings was good. Crunchy skin well infused with ginger flavor which provide a pleasant heat to it and the flesh still retained juicy and tender.
Steamed Home Made Whole Grain Bun (RM7.00/3pcs)
These Mantao was infused with Oolong Tea as in the menu description but I didn’t taste any hint of tea. =.=”
Front – Spring Pudding (RM5.00)
Caramel pudding infused with Rose Tea
Back – Autumn Jelly (RM5.00)
Oolong Tea jelly
Both were just average.
The lawn is great for kids to roam around while the parents having their meal but need to keep an eye on them if they play too near to the pond.
There is a beautiful small pine forest near the entrance which is a good photography spot.
Don’t forget to strike a pose there if you happen to pop by. ^__^
Verdict: As I’ve mentioned, if you come here for the food, you might be up for some disappointments (the food I tried was just average, but there are many “not-so-good” online reviews regarding their food and service). It’s more like a little escape from the hustle and bustle of the city life, sit down, relax and enjoy a lunch/tea break on a sun-drenched wide open space with greenery surroundings.

wow, that’s a surprisingly large number of customers enjoying this place! 🙂
Sean, I think it’s hard to keep any place as your “secret hideaway” nowadays >_<
So the place itself is the main dish while the food is the side dish. LOL!
PH, you can say so….. hehe ^__^
Dining amidst such lush greenery (minus the heat!) must have been a very relaxing experience. ^_*
Kris, an experience that cafes in the city couldn’t give 😛
It was open on Public holiday this Hari Raya – 15 June/ 16 June ?
Janet, I;m not sure about this, maybe you can call and ask.
I have been eyeing at all these retreats near the forests and mountains in Malaysia. I think my head is so stressed and crying to relax in such green ambiance with fresh air. I even thought about moving to stay in the countryside during retirement years and build a concrete hut that would cost under RM100K for house & land.
TM, I believe your dream of having a house at countryside will definitely comes true! You can live happily ever after with your lovely wifey.
