The Local by The Gastro Project @ Jaya One
The Local, a new establishment by The Gastro Project that offer a totally different concept which serve Malaysians’ favourite local delicacies and this is very obviously well represented by its name ~ The Local.
Located at Jaya One, one block away from Gao Ren Guan, the restaurant adopted a straightforward and simple setting with basic tables and chairs but what attracted me most was the delicious looking food photo on the walls!
Al-fresco seats
Pink Nectar
The concoction of sirap (rose cordial syrup drink) and milk with addition of assorted condiments such as lychee and jellies, not too sweet and refreshing~
Teh Tarik
Frothy and smooth, one of the can’t miss signature beverage!
Banana Shakes
Apple Asam Boi
Tangerine Mandarin Fizz
ABC
I would prefer a bigger glass/bowl to make the “ingredients digging” process easier 😛
Rojak Buah
Kicked started the dinner with local style salad, an eclectic mix of variety cut fruits coated with shrimp paste dressing and crushed peanuts, the dressing was aromatic with distinctive taste however it can be better the dressing is thicker.
Roti Jala with Curry Chicken
One of my favourite Malay food, the egg crepe was soft and taste really great when drenched with the thick curry gravy, yum yum~
Nasi Lemak
Malaysians’ perennial favourite “national dish”, we can have it anytime, anywhere! The Local’s version was decent, the coconut rice was accompanied with all the basic condiments of sambal, fried anchovies, hard boiled egg, peanuts & sliced cucumbers. The fried chicken was infused with flavorful and enticing marinade, pretty good stuff and the sambal was not too spicy with tinge of sweetness.
Nasi Kerabu
A renowned delicacy from East Coast, the blue coloured rice not only attractive to the eye but also so refreshing on the taste bud with those herbs bits.
Claypot Chicken Paratal
The chicken paratal was redolent with spices and the combination of various spices gave it a multitude of flavors which was nothing less than outstanding. Served it with claypot to keep the temperature of the dish definitely a brilliant idea!
Curry Laksa
As mentioned earlier, the restaurant was adorned with framed food photo and one of the those that attracted me the most was the photo of a bowl of curry laksa which looked exactly the same with what served on our table! Laden with numerous of ingredients, the curry laksa was rich and creamy however lack the oomph that really can impress me 😛
Asam Laksa
The asam laksa had a good dose of spiciness and sourness which was nothing to complaint 🙂
Nasi Goreng Kampung TL
The “wok hei” was distinctively present and the rice was fluffy with bits of crunchy anchovies and various of diced vegetables.
Banana Fritters
Imagine put a mouthful of pipping hot banana fritter together with freezing cold Vanilla ice cream~~
Verdict: Now I know where to get my local food fix at a comfortable environment 🙂

Flood your rice with the curry, yum yum~
Nasi kerabu is one of my favourite Malaysian dishes — I only wish it was more widely available like chicken rice or roti canai!
