Tripod Empire @ Damansara Uptown, P.J

As a big fan of hotpot, I rejoiced at the birthday girl’s decision of having hers celebration at Tripod Empire – a Taiwanese healthy style hotpot restaurant  “Yang Sheng Guo 养生锅”. Nestled in a bustling corner of Damansara Uptown, parking can be slightly challenging at this area and I would recommend to park at the The Starling Mall which is just across the street.

The setting of the restaurant was simple and straightforward, white and grey themed space, brightly lit with air conditioner on full blast.

With a Condiments Charge of RM5.90/pax, diners are entitled to enjoy the self-service sauce bar with a great collection of different ingredients and condiments, as well as pickles, fruits and candies.

Apart from the variety of soup bases and ingredients for the hotpot, Tripod Empire’s menu also highlighted the above signature dish of Golden Fish Tripe Chicken Broth.

The soup base list featured eight types of flavour namely Taiwan Spicy Mala, Nourishing, Golden Pumpkin, Pickled Cabbage & Pork, Baby Abalone & Scallop, Truffle Mushrooms, High Fiber Tomato and Seafood Porridge (RM20.90 to RM69.90)

Tripod Empire’s repertoire of hotpot ingredients is extensive enough to please any hotpot lovers. From usual different cut of sliced meat (included premium grade Iberico, Japan A5 Wagyu, US Tajima G10 Wagyu, Australia Lamb & Macao Chicken), assorted hand made meat balls, meat paste, seafood, vegetables, mushrooms, bean curds and noodles. Some special ingredients such as duck blood, fried bean curd stick (You Tiao), Hsing Hua Rice Vermicelli, fresh soy knot, mouse ear fungus, and fried gluten are worth trying too.

Also in the menu were braised pork rice and small selection of snacks like fried homemade dumplings, deep fried crispy pork, BBQ chicken wings, glutinous rice cake with brown sugar and a few more.

High Fiber Tomato (RM20.90) & Pickled Cabbage & Pork (RM20.90)

Both were flavourful yet not too overpowering to outshine the freshness of the ingredients. The tomato broth had a lovely comforting tang of the tomato base while the pickled cabbage broth showcased an addictive kick that draw you back in for another sip once it was savoured. Both paired wonderfully with all the fresh ingredients we chose.

Fried Fish Skin (RM10.90)

Taiwan Squid Sausage (RM20.90)

New Zealand Lamb Leg (RM28.90) & Pork Shoulder (RM19.90)

Fried Bean Curn Skin (RM5.90)

Abalone & Fish Paste (RM25.90)

Brown & White Shimeji (RM7.90)

Handmade Dumplings (RM10.90)

Iced Tofu (RM7.90)

White Radish Slices (RM6.90)

These ingredients were fresh and beautifully plated.

Golden Fish Tripe Chicken Broth (RM139.90)

The golden broth was intensely flavoured from hours of boiling high grade ingredients of fresh Macao Chicken, Korean Dried Scallops, Canadian and Hong Kong Fish Tripe, Australian Pumpkin, premium grade Cordyceps Flowers, XinJiang Red Dates and premium grade Snow Fungus (as mentioned in the menu). It was rich and thick (which literally resulted a “lip-sticking” sensation), with such choice of ingredients, the sumptuous soup will boost your vigour for sure.

There was half portion of chicken in the soup as well, which was removed and cut into small pieces for easier consumption.

Also part of the dish were these abundance of ingredients which were going to cook into congee with the golden broth.

A savoury, hearty and umami-rich congee, it was the perfect finale.

Verdict: The signature Golden Fish Tripe Chicken Broth indeed deserved the merit, it was scrumptious and gratifying. The food here probably cost quite a penny or two but the quality of ingredients were there. Not really a place we can go often but I don’t mind making a revisit for special occasions.

  • Wow, this looks like a premium hotpot (when you have to pay for the soup base, it’s definitely one…lol)….good choice by the birthday girl! 😉 It must have been a rather big party celebration seeing that you still ordered a porridge-based hotpot after two soup-based ones. The porridge looked superior with its quality ingredients.

  • Kris, there were 6 of us. That wasn’t a porridge based hotpot actually, it was a chicken soup (premium one :P) which can be eaten in two ways – can be cooked into porridge.
