Umai-Ya Japanese Restaurant @ KLCC
We were loitering at KLCC after an event. We pass by Umai-Ya Japanese Restaurant and the facade looked inviting to us so we settled our late lunch here.

The interior looks casual but modern with traits of sleek urban design.

We opted to sit at the tatami seat facing the walkway of the mall. Backdropped with Japanese comic wall which add a youthful vibe to the setting.

Ocha (RM2.00)

Sam was presented with a set of kid’s cutlery before the ordering and this definitely a kind gesture.

Saba Shioyaki & Sashimi Moriawase (RM39.90)

The sashimi was decent, fresh and thick cut. The grilled saba was equally tantalizing, meaty and adequately seasoned.

Gohan Set (RM9.90)
Add on salad, rice, miso soup & fruit platter for a wholesome meal.

Katsu Curry Rice (RM26.90)

Generously inundated with thick and creamy Japanese curry studded with cubes of carrot and potato, my order of Katsu curry rice was a pretty satisfying portion. A big slab of breaded fried chicken was crunchy on the outer but the inner was a little too dry.

Children Set (RM16.90)
The petite portion was just nice for Sam, it consists of chicken karaage, maki roll, sushi, chawanmushi and drink.

Verdict: Price is on higher side and the food quality was just average in my book. There’s definitely a more affordable choice for Japanese food out there.

I’ve been to the one at Damansara Uptown (which has since closed down) and I like the food (but not during buffet). The only thing I did not like was the service. They were quiet slow especially when there are many customers.
I also been to the Umai-Ya Uptown, but for buffet which I remember was my 1st Japanese buffet experience.
I don’t quite like the food here….still prefer the other one here (Yuzu). I remembered your comment on my review of Umai-ya where you said you dined here after an event and the food was not memorable. Haha, I think you’ve forgotten already and went to dine here again…oops! 😀 Unless this was the same dining experience you mentioned which makes this post more than a year old then!
Exactly! This is the one I’ve mentioned in your blog, super backlog post ~>_<~
Hmmm I saw this restaurant many times, i thought they just offer Japanese buffet.
I’m not sure whether they still offer buffet but I’ve been to Damansara Uptown outlet for buffet though which closed down already 🙁
fun manga-style artwork on the wall! 😀
Yes, that manga-style artwork attracted me to dine in here, haha LOL
I like places where they put some effort to cater for the kids. Plus point for me.
Yes, the kid(s) will be very happy to get those cute kid cutlery~
Ha ha ha… You guys are really hardworking to post backdated dining places. The ambiance and interior looks very zen and Japanese styled to me.
haha, I don’t like those old photos sitting in my archive LOL
