Urban
I was brought to this hidden gem ~ Urban by my foodie friends which nestled in Hotel Istana Kuala Lumpur. Urban served really great contemporary western cuisine which wowed us non-stop that night !
Being our first visit, we were impressed by the passionate orange theme, comfy yet relaxing ambience.
The grand piano.
Visually stunning wine-bar featuring over 300 international labels.
Wine Dispenser that keeps open wine fresh for tasters.
Display rack adorned with wines & glasses.
Our dinner kick started off with complimentary bread which was unusually different, different in a good way that is 😛
Puri Bread & Walnut and Raisin Bread, Served with Sun Dried Tomato Butterer, Herb Butter & Chicken Pate
My first time had puri bread in a western restaurant which I normally had this at mamak stall but surprisingly the light & fluffy puri went well with the savory chicken pate. While the walnut and raisin bread had the distinctive chocolaty flavor and the addition of walnut also gave it a nutty taste.
Tom Yam Consommé with Laksa Noodles and Daikon Carpaccio
Our first “WOW” by this artfully presented amuse-bouche! The clear liquid of Tom Yam Consomme served in mini glass consisted of cubed pineapple, julienned kaffir lime and ginger torch. The smooth & slippery laksa noodle slithers down my throat easily together with the strong & distinctive Tom Yam flavors from the consomme.
While others still discussing how cute was the carpaccio held by the mini peg, I can’t wait to savor this thin sliced white radish with a filling of minced prawns and herbs wrapped in. Light & refreshing.
Soup of Smoked Garlic, Chicken Roll and Sweet Pepper Stew on Toasted Brioche
Creamy & dense , each spoonful left a very strong aroma of the garlic behind.
Quail Wrapped with Beef Strip, Braised Le Puy Lentils, Pètit Salad and Red Grape Jus
Baked to perfection with golden brown skin while the inner still retained the juiciness of the meat. I love to dipped the quail meat into the appetizing red grape and wine sauce which couple with of sourness.
Smoked Duck Breast with Jasmine Tea Fragrance, Cured Foie Gras and Rocket Salad
Presented in myriad of colours from the rocket leaves , raspberries, blueberries, gooseberry, walnut & tiny cube of raspberry jelèe. The duck was smoked with Jasmine Tea, brown sugar and thyme for that unmistakeable smoky aroma. Not only tasteful to the sight but the palate too 🙂
Bay Scallop served with Creamy Tagliatelle Leek Fondue and Saffron
Pan seared sizable & fresh scallop lay on bed of shredded leeks then drenched in butter and cream sauce with saffron.
Foie Gras with Exotic Fruit Chutney, Birgrade Sauce and Golden Mango Sorbet
The thick foie gras had nice crust while the inner remained smooth and creamy. The sweet birgrade sauce & the mango, pear & ginger chutney gave it a multitude level of flavors which was nothing less than spectacular!
Tiger Prawn served with Root Vegetables, Coriander Dressing and Garden Herbs
I like the firm & bouncy prawn paired with coriander dressing which brought out the natural sweetness of the fresh crustacean.
Sake Cured Salmon with Avocado Mash, Crème Fraiche and Tomato Basil Sorbet
The salmon was light in taste been marinated with sake, vanilla bean & citrus, coupled with creamy mashed avocado & crème fraiche.
Calamansi Sorbet Infused with Sour Plum
Perfect as a palate cleanser, intense sourness & refreshing.
Our starters were awesomely evoke a simple sigh of satisfaction of everyone, can’t wait to continue to the mains huh? Shall we? ^___*
Oven Baked Lobster with Mustard and Brandy with Truffle Mash
If only one word to describe this, what would it be? Luxury? Fresh? Huge? Or Orgasm? All I wouldsay! Well seasoned with brandy and Dijon mustard & the firm texture meat was the proof of the freshness of this king of crustacean.
Grain Fed Short Ribs Fall-Off-The-Bone paired with Tasty Gravy and Creamy Potatoes
The enormous size ribs was fork tender as described & flavorful which I believe was from long hours of slow cooking.
Fillet Mignon paired with Seaweed Butter Blue Leg Prawn and Mushroom Ragout
Despite the thick chunk, the fillet mignon was tender and soft while the prawn was unexceptionably fresh & bouncy.
Lamb Loin with Vanilla Date Compote, Cheese Ravioli, Rosti and Fresh Thyme sauce
A little grumbling here, the lamb loin was a bit overcooked rendering the meat was slightly chewy but the sides of goat cheese rivioli and rosti were palatable to compensate the tiny miss.
Black Angus Rib Eye served with Russet Potato ‘Millefeuille’ and Jus
The medium cooked 120 days grain fed beef really had gotten my friend who order this really ecstatic, no kidding! The bursting beefy flavor was mind-blowing & the rib eye match impeccably with the mashed potato.
Let’s let the WOW continue~
Strawberry Millefeuille with Vanilla Custard and Strawberry Black Pepper Coulis
This was too adorable to the eyes~ The layers of filo, strawberry chunks and vanilla custard, all is truly unique & features its own flavors & textures.
Caramelized Mango with Puff Pastry and Passion Fruit Sorbet
Mango lover must love this!
Tiramisu with Pistachio Biscotti and Vanilla Ice Cream
Tiramisu was the light version and suitable for those who don’t like strong coffee flavor in their tirimisu (like me :P)
Pistachio biscotti had a dry and crumbly texture.
The vanilla ice cream had dense & strong vanilla taste if compare to what we normally had.
Lime Caramel Chocolate, Biscuit Strudel and Strawberry served with Hot Lime Caramel
Chocolate ball, strawberries and biscuits crumbs served in a giant cup.
Wonder how to eat this?
Ta ta.. Pour in the hot lime caramel & watched the chocolate ball melted. *another WOW*
A playful dessert show & I bet children will love this!
Chocolate Lava Gateaux served with Chocolate Ice Cream
Chocolate lover definitely will scream of excitement when the chocolate syrup oozing out from the chocolate cake!
Soufflé with Vanilla Ice Cream
Light & airy texture of the Soufflé make me wonder if I’m eating cotton candy 😛 Definitely on a stellar level!
I believe many of you must thought that dining here would burning a hole in your pocket. RM135nett per person for 3-Course Dinner , or RM175nett per person for 3-Course Gourmet Special. All topped off with coffee or tea and special homemade bread. What do you think? It’s very worthy in my humble opinion considering the top quality ingredients used & the portion served, not to mentioned about the fabulous taste of the food!
