Yen Can Cook ~ Peach Yakult Soda Drink
Peaches are in season now and it typically runs mid-June through mid-September. Native to China, peaches were taken along the Silk Route to Persia and were later spread to North and West Europe by the Romans. The peach is easily raised from seed and is now grown in temperate climates across the globe.
Peaches, along with cherries, plums and apricots, are stone fruits. There are various heirloom varieties and have color ranging from red and white, to purple. The fruit has yellow or whitish flesh, a delicate aroma, and a skin that is either velvety/fuzzy (peaches) or smooth (nectarines) in different cultivars. Peaches are full of vitamin C and are also a good source of potassium and fiber. They contain beta-carotene, which the body converts to vitamin A.
