Restoran SekMeChoy
Kepong definitely hub of Bak Kut Teh, there are countless Bak Kut Teh restaurant but this doesn’t stop new shop from populating this area. Sekmechoy, specializing in Claypot Pepper Bak Kut Teh is the latest addition to the huge list of Bak Kut Teh restaurants in Kepong.
Sek Me Choy had been around at Salak South for more than 20 year. The owner of the restaurant used to be in tin mining business but after the prices of tin crashed the owner remake himself in the restaurant trade. Instead of selling the normal herbal Bak Kut Teh, he created a new recipe by replacing the herbs with pepper which is less heaty and a suitable substitution for his health condition. That’s where it took off.
One of the Top 20 best Bak Kut Teh in Malaysia in one of the contest held by local Chinese newspaper.
Their signature dishes featured on one of the wall in the restaurant.

Pickled Mustard Rice ~ 芥菜饭 (RM 2.00), White Rice (RM 1.00)
Yao Char Guai (RM 1.20 – Small)
I can’t miss this when I have BKT!
Claypot Pepper BKT (RM 11.00 / pax)
The soup was clear with peppery taste which is not too overwhelming and I guess it can be accepted by most of the people. Other than the pork (we omitted the spare parts), there were also some button mushrooms and lettuce.
Braised Pork Trotter with White Radish (RM 15.00)
Big chunks of pork trotter braised with white radish in savory dark sauce. The gelatinous fats of the knuckle intertwined with a little meat were firm and tender while the sweet and savory sauce enhances the flavor of the meat. While the white radish was braised till soft and absorbed all the flavors of the gravy, good stuff!
Verdict: I’ve read that there had been many complaints about the slow service due to the understaffed problem but I didn’t encounter this when my visit, perhaps they have done something after those bad reviews?
