Okomen Japanese Restaurant @ Desa Sri Hartamas
Already bored of Chinese food when Chinese New Year? Let’s have some Japanese cuisine today!
Okomen Japanese Restaurant, located at a fairly secluded nook of Desa Sri Hartamas (row behind Maybank Desa Sri Hartamas or Daorae Desa Sri Hartamas) specialises in Okonomiyaki.
Okonomiyaki is Japanese savoury pancake containing a variety of ingredients. The name is derived from the word okonomi, meaning “what you like” or “what you want”, and yaki meaning “grilled” or “cooked”.

The interior with simple setting and an open concept kitchen.

Sake and liquor being displayed nicely in the glass cabinet.

They looks real but they aren’t!

Endamame

Tori Oko (RM 15.80)
Arrived in an attractive presentation, their signature dish of Tori Oko beautifully dressed with sweet sauce and mayonnaise in nice pattern. Consisted of flour mixture, cabbage, egg, onion and pork, the flavor was slightly too bland for my liking but luckily the sauces have saved it a little bit 😛

A pictorial guide on how to eat your okonomiyaki on every table.

Another Okonomiyaki topped with bonito flakes and sunny side up. The egg definitely added a creaminess to the pancake and the “dancing” bonito flakes not only eye attractive but also gave it a pleasant savory taste.
Verdict: The food I tried not really wowed us however this seem like the only place that offer “authentic” Okonomiyaki, so I will still come back if I’m craving for it 😛

oo… also just visited this not too long ago, agree, Love the Okonomiyaki and we tried a ramen which was fairly good. We also had a dish of fish that wasnt too pleasant but the restaurant was really good and took it off our bill when we complaint abt the freshness.
Would definately go back for the Okonomiyaki!
Oh, u went! And they are so good to write off the item from your bill, nice gesture indeed~
Wao, I didn’t know such Japanese restaurant exist in Hartamas! I’m a big fan of Okonomiyaki, would love try it out someday^^
Then you must thanks me for sharing this , hehe ^__*
the mock ups do look like real food! 😀 And though the Tori Oko is affordable and looks really pretty but I don’t like tons of mayonnaise or even sweet sauce on my food.. so I’d probably sweep it to the side!
Me too don’t like too much mayo on my food but this case, the pancake was slightly and so the sauce help to season a bit 😛

It’s really special to see some Japanese Restaurants specializing in Okonomiyaki, price is a bit steep for Penangites, but would definitely love to try if they were to open in Penang!
