Goon Wah Restaurant @ Damansara Jaya
Stumbled upon Goon Wah Restaurant when we were having our afternoon tea in one of the cafe at Atria Shopping Gallery. Known for their claypot XO fish head noodles, Goon Wah’s first outpost after their headquarter at Kuchai Lama located right opposite Atria Shopping Gallery. (look for entrance beside KFC and Goon Wah is just opposite) Due to its odd operating hours (weekday only from 8am to 3pm), I never got the chance to check this place out.

We were there for early dinner at 6pm+ on Saturday and this place was running on full capacity. We had to wait a while for the table and a queue soon ensued right after we got our seat.
The restaurant is brightly lit however the shop is rather small and tables were cramped within the space. The place was filled with noise from the crowd too which very much annoyed Sam. >_<“

Menu

Fried Guinness Stout Chicken Wings (S – RM 11.90)
Deep fried chicken wings coated with sweet and savory sticky sauce, it was just run-of-the-mill, nothing to shout about.

Claypot XO Fish Head Noodles (S- RM 14.90)

Arrived bubbling hot, the portion is fairly generous for the price. The soup was less milky if compared with other fish head noodles I’ve had before but the flavors was spectacular. With the right balance of tangy and savoury taste, further enhanced by the generous amount of coriander although I couldn’t taste the XO 😛
I found decent portion of fried fish head, bean curd, tomato chunks and salted vegetables and yam slices in this pot of noodles. A kind of comfort food that I’ll enjoy immensely. Oh ya, the broth is refillable which is great for a soup drinker like me 🙂

Treasure Box Claypot Loh See Fun (RM 12.90)

Another famous dish at Goon Wah. Served on gas stove, the claypot Loh See Fun crowned with a generous amount of minced pork, pork lard, fried dried shrimp, spring onion and chili.

Have a good mix of all the ingredients and enjoy the noodles that well coated with savoury soy sauce. I like the fried dried shrimps which offers a pleasant crunchy texture as well as the enticing aroma to the overall dish.
Verdict: I really like the broth of the fish head noodles and definitely don’t mind to come back for more!

I love fish head noodles….those look like really thick vermicelli 🙂
I prefer thick vermicelli for my fish head noodles, nicer texture 🙂
Had my fish head noodle here. Taste is horrible. Too sour with no coriander, spring onions and greens. Look too plain and taste the same as well. Disappointed
can’t believe Ah Hoon Goor is back, l’m the one who work and fully respect him since the old shop operating from ten year ago
