Xenri Fine Japanese Cuisine @ Wisma Elken, Old Klang Road
I miss the food at Xenri Fine Japanese Cuisine after my Lou Sang session. The excellent food really left a strong impression and contemplate a return to savor more of their menu. My wish was granted last month right before the GST storm hits us >_<.
Edamame (RM 12.00)
This boiled green soy beans is must order for Sam whenever we had Japanese food and she can just simply polished off one bowl by herself!
Otsukuri Mori (RM 88.00)
We were told that the fishes were air flown from Japan twice a week, specifically every Tuesday and Friday. So make sure to visit them on those two days to savor the freshest sashimi.
The Otsukuri Mori was a mini garden on ice bowl filled with thick pieces of fresh sashimi of Salmon, Tuna, Yellowtail, Amber Jack and Scallop. These fresh cuts were superb and succulent with a light dipping of soy sauce and a smear of wasabi. The ice bowl definitely a nice touch because it keeps the fish cold while we slowly savor it.
Kaki Nezuyaki (RM 24.00)
For those who can’t take raw oyster (like me :P) this grilled oyster in shell unequivocally a good choice. Smothered in a luscious creamy sauce with shimeji mushroom before being grilled, the outer layer had a beautiful golden layer with slightly crunch texture. The oyster hidden underneath was plump and juicy.
Unagi Kabayaki (RM 60.00)
Saba Shioyaki (RM 24.00)
These two fish prepared the traditional Japanese way always been my sentimental favourites. One is eel grilled in sweet eel sauce while the other is mackerel grilled with salt. Both are distinctive in their taste and excellently executed, I was literally in pure contentment~~
Meltique Beef Set
The set came in very huge portion which can be shared among 2 small eaters. Consisted of salad, miso soup, chawanmushi, garlic fried rice and cut fruits.
The supporting casts were well prepared but the main star in the set successfully stood out as the most titillating dish of that evening. The Meltique Beef is Xenri’s special offer which share the same melt-in-your-mouth texture as Wagyu Beef minus the hefty price tag. Meltique Beef is actually a type of meat which soluble oil was inserted by using unique method into the lean meat cuts to baste the meat internally during the cooking process.
The beef cubes possessed powerfully evocative flavors that made every bite a treasure. It was fabulously juicy and tender, prepared in minimal seasoning together with sauteed mushrooms, asparagus and tomato. Simply out of the world delicious stuff I would say.
Ice Cream Macha Ogura (RM 12.00), Goma, Yuzu, Mango (RM 10.00), Chocolate, Vanilla RM 8.00)
Last but no least, ice cream in assorted flavors to round up the sumptuous dinner.
Verdict: Food was excellent (both visit) and the price range was considered reasonable for the premium quality. Will certainly love to make a return!
