Mei By Fat Spoon @ Desa Sri Hartamas
The team behind Damansara Uptown’s Fat Spoon has begun another venture, the Japanese-inspired Mei by Fat Spoon in Desa Sri Hartamas.
The cafe boasts an minimalist bright white theme completed with wooden fixtures and fittings. The ceiling-to-floor glass window allow sufficient sunlight to bask the place, sparingly decorated with potted plants and grey tone cushions. Everything has made up a very comfortable and relaxed space to dine in.
They have a pretty extensive beverages menu, juices, coffee, tea, ice blended, bottled beer and tea coolers.
Hot Lemongrass & Pandan (RM8.00/pot)
Green Juice (RM10.00) – Apple, Kyuri Cucumber, Kiwi, Limau Kasturi & Dill
Red Juice (RM12.00) – Red Dragonfruit, Apple, Watermelon & Goji Berries
White Juice (RM10.00) – Coconut, Lychee & Basil Seeds
Cappuccino (RM10.00)
Mei By Fat Spoon serves modern contemporary Japanese food which to me is a kind of comfort food that playing with many enticing elements. The menu consists of the crowd pleaser of assorted rice bowls, salads, skewers, pastas, Onigiri and desserts.
Summer Bara Chirashi Bowl (RM38.00)
Definitely the most popular order at Mei By Fat Spoon, and at the same time the most expensive item in their menu. Rice bowl crowned with cubes of Yellowtail, Salmon, Hokkaido scallops, salmon roe, Japanese cucumber and edamame. Shredded seaweed , dollop of wasabi and shiso leaf completed the appearance. A rice bowl that was gratifying for both eyes and palate. It showcased satisfying dimensions of flavors and textures of the ingredients, sweet, savory, tender, succulent, crunchy and the interesting popping sensation.
Torched Salmon (RM21.00)
Topped with semi-torched Salmon, onsen egg and cucumber paired with herbs and chili lime dressing. Brilliantly prepared with lightly torched, the salmon fillet had a nice charred outer while inner tenderness retained which is the perfect texture to be savoured. The chili lime dressing and the shredded torch ginger flower added extra Asian twist to the overall flavors. The rice bowl came with a serving of miso radish soup.
Ox Tongue Rice (RM21.00)
Seared ox tongue slices with house made sauce sweet and savoury sauce and garlic chips. Beware of the bird eye chili hidden underneath which can easily set your mouth on fire! This also served with miso radish soup.
Unagi Rice (RM25.00)
Grilled Unagi can be commonly found at any Japanese restaurant and the price is never come cheap. I was quite satisfied for the portion given here I must admit but the flavors was pretty standard though. Also present in the rice bowls are onsen egg, edamame, seaweed & garlic chips as well as a side of miso radish soup.
Torched Salmon Rice Soup (RM17.00)
Light in flavors, the torched salmon and steamed rice were doused in a hearty miso soup laden with white radish, carrot and okra.
Mentaiko Spagettini (RM28.00)
Spaghettini tossed in mentaiko, topped with torched Hokkaido scallops and ikura and lastly prettied up with sprinkles of seaweed, spring onions and cheery tomatoes. The flavor was fantastic, the scallop was fresh and sweet, the mentaiko and ikura were pleasantly briny. I like the sauce which was not overly creamy but nicely infused with hint of spiciness (from the mentaiko) that lure me slurping up the pasta in gusto.
Cempedak Spring Roll (RM15.00)
One of the recommended dessert in the menu, the Cempedak spring rolls were served pipping hot to our table. Crispy skin with aromatic Cempedak filling and paired with Vanilla ice cream, a delightful dessert indeed unless you don’t like the distinctive taste of the Cempedak.
Verdict: Food was satisfying in terms of flavors but the price not really cheap to be honest.

probably the unagi rice and red juice for me! 🙂
I had pasta that time and the unagi most probably my order too for next visit 🙂
I passed here so many times and wasn’t sure what they served. I will visit soon as my list is getting longer now.
Haha, foodie like us always have never ending growing list LOL
Actually the prices look alright to me….for Japanese food that is (the torched salmon rice soup is a healthy dish to have). I’ve been to Fat Spoon but not Mei by Fat Spoon (that cempedak spring roll is a very popular dessert from their sister cafe).
Try this place out which serve a a totally different types of food!
This is a super lousy cafe…worst service ever encountered….the person at the counter already said it is ok to sit at table for 4 pax but it was written RESERVED. But there are 2 of us and the Malay waitress insist us to get up and move table. I ask why there is one person sitting next table which is also for 4….he answered that …it was his BOS ….with his back facing us. He still insist us move to another smaller and round table. Anyone can reply to this be my guest and I will also be posting this up in the social media
