Yen Can Cook ~ Steamed Pork Belly with Shrimp Paste
Shrimp paste or shrimp sauce (虾酱) is a fermented condiment commonly used in Southeast Asian and Southern Chinese cuisines. I tried to use it as the marinade for my pungent and flavourful air fried pork ribs (RECIPE). Today, I’m going to share another simple steamed recipe which is using shrimp paste as primary flavour agent and the result is fantastic! Please cook more rice when you cook this, don’t say I didn’t warn you yo! (^ω^)
Ingredients (Serve: 3-4)
250-300g pork belly, thinly sliced about 3mm (refer here for easy way to slice meat)
2 teaspoons prawn paste
1 teaspoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon corn starch
2 slices ginger, julliened
A pinch of pepper
1/4 teaspoon cooking oil
Chopped spring onion, for garnishing (optional)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Step 1: Marinade the sliced pork belly with prawn paste, sugar, corn starch, ginger and pepper for at least 30 minutes in the refrigerator.
Step 2: Take out the marinated pork belly and let it rest at room temperature. Add in the cooking oil, mix well and spread them out flat in a plate.
Step 3: Steam in a wok of boiling water for 10-12 minutes.
Step 4: Garnish with chopped spring onion and serve.
