Dafu Congee 粥大福 @ SkyAvenue, Genting Highlands
Hubby had been pestering me to go Genting Highlands since the announcement of the additional Hari Raya holiday (21st April 2023) and I only agreed when we checked on the traffic condition on that morning. ┐( ̄ヘ ̄)┌ #ijustwanttostayathome
Traffic was smooth and we arrived the hill resort at circa 10am. We didn’t have any planning on what to do that day but one thing that could be certain was, we needed to have our breakfast/brunch. (^_-)v
Dining options are unquestionably aplenty here at Genting Highlands, from local food to international brands and food choices ranging from Chinese, western, Japanese, desserts, light food, hot pot, Thai, bubble teas, bars, fast food and even local hawker fares (in both Halal & Non Halal food court).
After loitering at SkyAvenue for a good 20 minutes, we decided to try Dafu Congee which seemed like newly opened with many congratulatory flower stands being placed at the entrance.
Although the restaurant was full house, we were lucky to get a table in a jiffy. The dining area was brightly lit with food photos adorning the walls, but tables were placed a little too close for comfort.
Dafu Congee offers Macau style freshly made congee (Sang Guan Zok 生滚粥) as their signature item, the choices included Crab Congee, River Eel Congee, Frog Congee, Beef Congee and Fish Congee (RM34.90 – RM119.80). The menu also comprises double boiled soup (RM19.90 – RM28.90), claypot dishes such as Lamb Belly Pot, Tiger Prawns XO Sauce Pot, Beef Brisket Pot, Mala Pork Mix Pot, Kangkung Sambal Pot, Rivel Eel Pot and Dragon Chives Bean Sprout Dried Shrimp Pot (priced from RM18.90 to RM39.90), snacks (century eggs, fried pork intestines, braised chicken feet, fried chicken wings & etc) and dessert Tong Sui.
Fish Congee (Small – RM42.90)
Boiled with bean curd skin skin (Fu Zhuk) for extra nutty flavour, the congee was velvety smooth which simply glide down your throat! The flavour was light and suitably seasoned. Portion wise, there were generous portion of fish fillet in the congee.
Lamb Belly Pot (RM39.90)
Submerged in thick and rich gravy, there were fatty chunks of lamb belly with skin and pieces of soft tender white radish. The gravy was pungent with a complex flavour of various herbs and spices, but the chef must be heavy handed when comes to salt, it was slightly on salty side. (-“-)
This was my first time eating lamb with skin on and I can say that it’s not my preferential texture. The meat wasn’t as soft as we would have hoped, but still adequately braised. The weird thing is the dish didn’t served with the usual dipping sauce of fermented bean curd sauce (Fu Yu Sauce) and when I requested for a sauce, normal chili sauce (think of McDonald’s chili sauce T_T) was brought to me. Q.Q
Crispy You Tiao (RM5.90)
True to its name, those Chinese crullers were superbly crispy, yum yum~~
Verdict: I can’t say it’s a perfect meal as I’ve had a better lamb belly pot elsewhere but the porridge was more than decent. If you’re in Genting Highlands and need some comfort food, I reckon the porridge and double boiled soup can be an ideal option.

Ah, both the dishes you had are warm (porridge), heaty (lamb) and comforting in cold weather up in Genting although a bit pricey for the small portions…but then again this is Genting prices…lol! 😀
Kris, nowadays Genting Highland’s weather no longer cold, the temperature just slightly lower than the low land. 🙁
Oh my I want the lamb belly pot!
KY, fatty fatty lamb. 😛
