Restoran Hidangan Mi HYT @ Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah (Jalan Ipoh), K.L
When I had my first try on Fried Hokkien Prawn Mee at Thong Kee Cafe, it changed my impression of this delicacy which has an unappetizing appearance = bland tasting.
My next attempt on this said-to-be originated from Singapore Fried Hokkien Prawn Mee was at Restoran Hidangan Mi HYT, located at Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah (Jalan Ipoh).
A typical no fuss, no frills restaurant setting, bright and airy, as well as air conditioned.
The menu of HYT is categorized into fried noodles, soupy/gravy noodles, porridge and snacks. Some of the fried noodles options are their signature Fried Prawn Mee (S-RM13.80, M-19.80, L-RM23.80), Hokkien Mee (RM12.80 – RM22.80), Malay Style (RM12.80 – RM22.80), Fried MeeSua (RM13.80 – 23.80), Fried Hong Kong Noodles (RM13.80 – RM23.80) and etc.
Soupy/Gravy series included Lam Mee (RM12.80 – RM22.80), Ginger Wine MeeSua (RM13.80 – RM23.80), Slice Fish Noodles (RM13.80 – RM23.80), Cantonese Fried (RM12.80 – RM22.80), and etc.
Porridge with assorted ingredients such as fish, shredded chicken, pork & century egg, and three eggs are priced at RM10.80/portion.
Snacks such as Nam Yu Pork Belly, Salad Prawns, Stir Fried Veggies, Hokkien Meat Roll, Salted Egg Squid and Salted Egg Pumpkin are priced from RM12 to RM50.
Iced Cham C (RM5.30)
Fried Prawn Mee (S-RM13.80)
The stir-fried noodle dish comprised yellow noodles and Lai Fun, steeped in aromatic stock made of pork bones and prawn heads. The flavour of that wonderful gravy is absorbed into each strand of noodle. There were 2-3 fresh prawns in good size, squid, bean sprouts, egg and crunchy fried pork lard that makesthe dish memorable. It was served with Sambal chilli and lime for that extra zing. Definitely a plate of slurp-worthy noodles.
Crispy Vermicelli (S-RM13.80)
I order this out of curiosity. It sparked my interest when I saw the sharing of this dish in XHS. The disc of noodles was crunchy on the outer with usual fried Meehoon underneath. There were same ingredients like the above dish, prawns and squid morsels, eggs bits and bean sprout. The chef was very generous with nuggets of crisp lard which added bursts of flavour to every bite. A comforting meal that’s totally worth the calories.
Crispy Pipa Tofu (S-RM18.00)
The small portion consisted of 6pcs of their deep fried homemade bean curd (Big – RM30.00/12pcs). Served along with Thai chili sauce, the bean curd cubes were coated with an unique chewy batter, which I assumed was made from tapioca flour. The bean curd had a good dose of savouriness, a pleasant snack to be savoured.
Verdict: Generous portion and ingredients, tasty food, as well as wallet friendly pricing, what’s not to like!

Ah, this was the one you alluded me to earlier in your comment on my Thong Kee post about the fried Hokkien mee. The crispy vermicelli also looks very good. I was expecting some Muslim halal food with the post title…..lol! 😉
Kris, I wonder would you come all the way to this place for the food?
I am very curious to try this Fried Hokkien Prawn Mee which I have heard many times amongst friends. Some loved it while some said so-so. I think I will like the taste.
😂😂 I also thought it is a Halal restaurant.
TM, maybe you can have a try since the location isn’t too for from where you stay.
ada lard sure win!
KY, I know you’re 100% lard lover! LOL
